love a free dive this time of year. nice and fresh

crays are good fun, but trying to mix it up a little

I've got a couple of occy around perth metro before, but mostly when ive spotted them looking for crays

if i was to specifically target them, are you searching the same ground as crays? or more specific areas for occy?

ive heard about looking for shallow caves with lots of shells out the front? am i on the right track?

still trying to master grilled occy like the greeks, so need more testers!

Smash them on

( pavers or concrete) slam them until they go limp.( about 15 times). 50/50 white malt vin and water. Boil hard for hour turn off . Leave them for 20 mins in pot. Take out gently (  tender very tender) same when u pickle 50/50 white malt vin to water. Salt . Pepper. Garlic . Chillie whatever you taste. Perfect:):):)

End of there cycle

Sun, 2016-05-15 21:41

Now. In close laying eggs in moorings and pots in close. Then die. When whites move out deeper big numbers move in not huge ones 500 to 1 kilo jobs. Feed up big time on crabs razor mussels ect. This time of year not heaps but huge. 5 out of every spot I swim will have 2 together( breeding I gather).1 month back was best . Heaps around. Noticed last swim I did massive egg sacks in certain places( pots ect). 50 to 100 eggs all had small moving critters in them about 5 mm long. And seen a few big dead occys . Also other occys eating occys. I have dived for them for many years (35 years local). Always found March April may best.( big ones). No expert but I would say the hundreds of sacks are baby occy. They actually swim around in sack. Few months back blue rings where in every pot with occy. Maybe they feel protected by normal occy?? Unsure. Haven't seen any for month( blue rings).:):) head freeze this time of year and iam using semi dry still bloody freezing. Good luck.

Hi Johnny,Thanks for sharing information. I have been fishing from CPBA for the past 8 years, and have caught some awesome fish from the sound (pinkies, gummies) and some ripper dhuies from out the back.Last cray season I started catching occys (great bait) but have not yet mastered the art of pickling them. Come up to The North end of the sound one day - I will buy you a beer. Keep posting.Happy Days, Bro.
