Commodore attitude7000 - fuel leak problem

Bought a 2008 commodore attitude 7000 (centre console) earlier this year and have put around 250 hours on it. Best thing I’ve bought the kids in a long time! About 4 weeks ago I noticed the smell of fuel on one of our fishing trips and I noticed it in the bilge area on top of some water. On closer inspection the fuel is leaking out of the internal hull bilge plug, which I normally leave un-plugged so as to drain any water from the hull. So the fuel is leaking into the hull area from the under deck aluminum tank. I've checked the breather, fuel level pickup and filler connections and they are all dry. I’m thinking it’s the tank. It doesn’t leak when sitting on the trailer with a half full tank on a bout a 10 degree driveway. So that sort of means the leak is in the top half of the tank somewhere or it needs the boat flexing to open up the leak in the tank. I'm going to have to cut the floor to get to the tank and was wondering if anyone knows of boat repairers that do this type of work. Have rung a few and they are not interested.

Alternatively any tips and tricks would be appreciated

regards

JR

Call Northshore in Henderson.

I had a similar problem and he cut the deck open removed my old tank and I had the "tank" glassed into the boat and have had no problems since.

cheers

If you get the tank out you will need to get it de gassed before any repairs can be done. You can buy a three stage weld inspection penetrant it's a ROCOL product. If you do all this then PM me and I can held with the welding side of things. But saying that I'm going to Dampier for two weeks tomorrow back on the 17th.

Schweet and thanks for the tips...Waiting to see if Andrew W will send me through any plans on where to cut the deck. Doesnt look like he's been online for while.  Either way its gona be a PIA to remove as it runs from between the centre console pit to the read bilge pit. So its sandwiched between fibreglass veritcal walls.

ref Leaking Fuel Tank

Fri, 2012-12-28 07:03

JR, did you get this problem fixed?  I discovered last night that my 12 year old 6m Fraser appears to have a fuel leak from the aluminium tank as there is a large amount of fuel in the sub-floor.  The hoses were all replaced about two years ago and appear to be fine so I'm sure the leak is in the tank somewhere.  It will need part of the floor cutting out to remove the tank.

Tim rbc, if Peter who worked at Commodore Marine is interested in this kind of work can you please PM me his details.  I think Commodore Marine used the old Fraser moulds so he should be familiar with the boat.

Anyone else got any recommendations of who to call to get this fixed?  It looks like no boating for me in this perfect weather.

Regards,
