Natural tolerance to disease
The biggest issue with this is the natural speed at which carp breed.
Natural tolerance/immunity to the disease will occur at some stage in selected fish and if/when these fish breed there is a chance they will pass down the immunity to some of their offspring. The offspring that didnt recieve immunity will obviously die but the ones which are immune from birth will go on to breed and the cycle begins again.
Its the same scenario with the myxoma virus (myxomatosis) in rabbits but carp can release 1000's of eggs.
It should still make a huge dent in the carp population.

If it's dinkum...
...you gotta admire science. They've managed to isolate this virus to the point where it only affects carp. Yes, as GGs states, there will be a percentage of immunity, but it's a HUGE step in the right direction!
