Coral Bay Tips

Hi people, well after reading and hearing about how good coral bay is, we decided to book in and tow the new boat up there from May 1-9 this year.  Being relatively new to WA we really dont know much about this coastline (its actually the first time for any of us past joondalup!!!

Just after any tips that people can pass on, pm's if desired..... Things i have noted already are use the north passage to get out there, troll along the back of the reef for spaniards.....  70+ for reds.  Other than that i am clueless - will be having a look at the gps maps to try find some lumps - was told that there are some which show near the north passage not far from the back of the reef.

We are taking up a 6.1m ally chivers, camping at the bayview caravan park, so if any other member up there, feel free to come over for a chat!  We will ahve the net up there, so if any good days a report will be produced!

Main fishing will be from the boat, targeting whatever we can find, lots of lures, placcies and bottom bashing gear with us.  Will also take out the hobies for a fish and hopefully a dive (so yeah, any dive site info would be appreciated), and with anyluck get on a charter to see those whale sharks!

Again, any help would be appreciated, and yeah feel free to come say hello!

wildinp, type in coral bay in the search on the left and there is a vast amount of informative info on various aspects of Coral Bay.  Far more than you will get in a few answers to this thread (if you're thinking it's too much effort).   :-D

good luck up there but you

good luck up there but you dont need to get into the 70's to get the reds ,m we have nailed some good ones in the 40's. dont spend too much time looking for lumps out there as there isnt many, just look for drop offs and ledges , the fish will show up on the sounder better as there isnt as much rough ground. as far as diving goes, just walk straight down to the water from the van park and tyou will have all the coral and fish you could want. just be aware or the friendly spangled emperor's up there. take a hand full of burley pellets with you and feed them. great fun

will see u up there maybe im ther from the 24 of april till the 15th love coral bay but ill be mainly chasing marlin and reds to yes the ground is very flat best to do is troll a bit in the 40+ area and it finds ground quicker... people wont tell u where fish is but will help north passege is much safe than the south if u never done it before dont or if you want to watch other people first diving well the reef is everywhere so any lump will be good they all hold fish and your boat is fine to go anywhere u want depending on weather im towing a 6.6 meter center console and we go everywhere up there

Looks like I will be up

Looks like I will be up there at the same time. Heading up on the 18thApr till 8thMay and will be chasing reds and goldbands. I will be taking a fraser 626, and staying at the Peoples park. So will be keen to say Gday.

The whale sharks are so worth the money, but you can get lucky and see them when you are fishing. Saw two last year.

Just a note when your heading out to the north passage through the bay markers, to stick close to the nav markers especially in the turns as there are some boat busting bommies.

Still dreamin about the elusive bills. Had a hookup two years ago and it lasted all of about 15secs. That comment rings a bell. Maybe I need to get one of those Pakula wich doctors. Any way stayin on the end of the first row, one across, if that makes sense.

Cant wait.
