Crabs

The wife has been giving me grief about getting a feed of crabs. Had no luck in the sound or the river and is not really my thing, i prefer being out wide chasig the bigger stuff. Any way she's busting my nuts about going to mandurah as apparently "anybody with a boat can get a feed". So I suggested a compromise and of we go to the fish shop to "buy" a feed. I put 6 reasonable blues in a bag, take it to the till and the bloke says, with a straight face, that will be $80 thanks. Like f*&k I said.

I'm off to mandurah on friday to get a feed of crabs. Bloody misus. Bet it will be glass and you will all be out wide.

No need to head to mandurah

Sun, 2014-02-02 07:52

No need to head to mandurah there are plenty in the swan, have a look at areas other guys are targeting. Its hard to go wrong drop your ten and pull your line straight away. Narrow to the old swan brewery are good or head towards canning bridge allong the skii markers from the narrow usually do ok here. Lots of guys try around canning bridge as well. I head up river these days and usually do well in deeper water. Sorry I cant be more specific.

Thanks mate. I run along the shore there regularly, including this morning at 5:30 and that whole stretch is getting smashed. I'll find hem eventually but i was gob smacked at the price they are asking for them. They are a nice feed but $80 for 6 crabs, you gotta be kidding me, they arent that nice. Thanks heaps for your help though mate, i appreciate it.

$32 per kilo for swan river

Sun, 2014-02-02 08:52

$32 per kilo for swan river blue swimmers, I sh&t you not. 6 crabs was 2.5 kg. Thats why I put them back and gave in to the misus. Dont mind a feed of them but they can be hard work to find.

The Sandhurst Tav in Carnarvon was the easiest place I've heard of to get crabs.

Got over 20 size in 2.5 hours around Bouvard yesterday. Honey sesame sweet chilli crab cakes for  dinner.

If you have the rope and a gullible fit decky try blackwall reach. Bring welders glove and wear shoes! :-)

80 bux for 6 crabs? Sheesh! Makes our oz day weekend an extravagant affair!

Whats wrong with blackies?

 ?

I crabbed Mosmans/The coombe 18-22mts friday night for a couple of hours, got a few thumper males in the first two pulls then nothing after...

I reckon like many have said the pressure in the swan is intense... Maybe try the bay north of Woodies(Directly in front of the Ammo Jetty) in that weed patch from 3-10 mts.

Hard work

Sun, 2014-02-02 21:30

Went Saturday, Claremont way 13 good size blues, but it was hard work, invested 6 hours of my day, fortunately had great company on board so time flew. Certainly not like previous years the swan is getting hammered boats and floats everywhere.
