Crays from Hillarys
Submitted by buddharock on Mon, 2012-12-10 16:46
Hi, haven't posted before but have followed many of the threads for a while. Have made a concerted effort to get out for the last couple of weeks from Hillarys, even in the rougher weather. Bit of a novice and frustrated so far by the lack of crays and also what seems to be someone who has 'moved' or taken a couple of our pots. I'm hoping they turn up but looked all around our area and nothing this morning. Has anyone else been having any more luck?

Spoke to fisheries at
Spoke to fisheries at hillaries on sunday after our dive.. Seems like the only catches are from divers, the potters arent having much luck at all. With the swell around the pots would have to be pretty close to ledges for them to produce some crays. Having said that the whites havent run yet so keep trying.. the best catch is yet to come.

Thanks Silly, waiting for
Thanks Silly, waiting for the whites to run is a very inexact science at the moment... The tanks are in for a service, a bit late this season and the shark shield is ordered. I'll keep on trying, get a dive in as well and hope to get some before Christmas.

Been and gone
Been and gone this year mate.. Whites really didn't run inside.. We(pros) are getting whites now in numbers for the first time but we are in 40odd metres.. You may still pick up the odd few inside but you won't get big numbers. It was very disappointing inside this year but that's life I guess..

Thanks Glen and Belly, deckie wasn't able to come out this morning but hopefully some tomorrow. I'll have to get under the water to hopefully get some crays for Christmas. What were conditions like this morning?
