The Cut - Herring

The Cut Herring fishing area on the north side near the marina is on my way home from work. What I have noticed is that it is empty every night/arvo for the last month when previously it was always packed.
Has the hezza's deserted this area. It appears that more people are fishing the southern estuary side of the cut which traditionally has been better for tailor, but in the twilight hours.
Just has me perplexed about what is going on.
Has anyone got any information.

Probably to do with the wind

Probably to do with the wind direction more than anything. I usually chose the side that is going to allow me to chuck out my little minnow or placcies the furthest and the south side is best on a SW which would be the wind direction in the arvos this time of year.

Some nice KGWs to be found on the sandpatch on the south entrance to the cut from the estuary too.

Was thinking that

but even then it appears the regular fisherman for herring there has deserted the place.
Might be to do with the tighter bag limits aswell

Well that sucks, I'm down Mandurah Friday-Sunday with the old man, my brother and my 6y old. I've got a spot near the old bridge that produces absolute belters everytime so will see how we go.

I was fishing straight out

Tue, 2016-12-06 15:54

I was fishing straight out from the cut today chasing tuna and there were schools of herring in the thirtys??

Also plenty of salmon trout in avalon bay on sunday.

Interesting I cant put my finger on it, as at the start of the november they were so thick they were hitting 80g metals that I was casting.

Mind you that was at the mouth of the cut, might be worth taking a twisty for a walk along the rockwall to try and pinpoint where the schools might be hanging around. I can't seen any weather which may have deterred them

Friday arvo...

...was anchored up a few hundred meters, into the estuary, from the southern wall. Nearly a herring every cast, with a few barely legal tailor in the mix, using both floating and sinking stickbaits.

fishing for Whiting about 3 clicks off. And they weren't shy taking the whiting baits on the bottom in 14m.
Havent had your luck in the Estuary side off the Cut Aus, but really haven't tried there much.
Slow trolled/drifted over the sand patch Jackfrost mentioned hoping for squid because it looked the goods, without luck.
Just surprises me that the normally packed Hezza spot has basically not had a fisho on it about 5pm everyday for the last week or so.
Yesterday stopped to check and there was 3 lads fishing, but they were using paternoster type rigs and catching trumpeter, blowies and small tarwhine. No idea what they were truly chasing.
