Cyclone, fingers crossed

Prepare now for a possible cyclone this festive season Thursday 18 December 2014 – 11:00 AM The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is warning people in northern WA to get ready now for the wet season, with an increased risk of cyclones in the coming weeks. DFES Country Assistant Commissioner Graham Swift said with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting an increased cyclone risk around the New Year, people in the State’s North need to prepare their homes and families before Christmas. “Basic planning and preparation can ensure your family is on the front foot when a cyclone strikes,” Assistant Commissioner Swift said. “This can be as simple as securing loose items around your home, trimming tree branches and preparing an emergency kit.” Assistant Commissioner Swift said having a pre-prepared plan is one of the most effective ways to stay safe during a cyclone. “Take some time to sit down with your family and make a plan for what you will do in the event of a cyclone,” he said. “Having a plan in place will save precious time when a cyclone approaches.” DFES issues alerts depending on the level of threat to the community and it is important to understand the warning levels and what you should do to help you stay safe.

You have to be quicker now

used to be able to go Yellow, and have 2 hrs to get organised. Now as soon as yellow is called all bottleO's shut immediately. Also the accord means less trading hours so you would have to be prepared more, like Pale Ale is.

Is the fingers crossed for a cyclone

Thu, 2014-12-18 14:02

or not for a cyclone. Loved the first one (Pancho) we had up there. Was exciting but turned out a little fizzer afterall.

After that learned to hate the bloody things, all the prep, tieying down, fill the boat with water, bathtub to. Then climb the roof and remove Foxtel dish. Move all unsecured stuff outside inside. Shut all the cyclone shutters. Then the cleanup with mud everywhere. Unpack everything and do things in reverse.

Glad I dont have to bother anymore.

Last one couldnt be bothered with climbing the roof and even though the wind gust wasnt severe still damaged the dish. Bugger all that with the wish to have some time off, NOT for me anymore.

Most important for me is a bit of rain. A couple days off work, fully paid would also be nice. Temps are hovering a bit over 40 lately, and anything to cool off the place would be fantastic.

Just had a look at the paid charts. Looks like more of an issue for Christmas island though there is a low chance of something starting to wake up on the 25th around Darwin.
