Daiwa tierra 3000 or stradic 4000????

Can anyone tell me how good the team daiwa tierra is?? I know about the stradics, was wondering what the daiwa equivelant would be and stumbled across the tierra.

Cheers

Have not tried the stradic, heard they are good. Have 2 tierras, 1500 and 4000.....excellent for the price, would buy another. 4000 with 20lb braid knocked over a 90 cm amberjack a few weeks ago, drag excellent.

The big sambos I've caught

Thu, 2010-10-28 17:17

The big sambos I've caught in 40m but did get a bit low on the spool there at times. When fishing in 100m I've only caught the smaller ambers which didn't threaten the 300mish of 30lb much. Would be another matter hooking a big sambo in the deep though.

The Stradic

Thu, 2010-10-28 17:22

The Stradic is the best pick by far, features that win it are;

A spare spool

More Drag

Heavy Duty reel when compared

10 Yr warranty

Better off going the Stradic 5000 as its the same body size but has more line capacity.

If its for jigging, the Tierra did feel a little fragile on the ambers.....drag was rock solid, but the gearing feels quite light (which makes it nice to use....but probably a bit weak).

I would listen to Honsu before you listen to me........

Be for jigging and throwing slices/poppers around on the beach for tailor/salmon. Ive got a 8000 saragosa but wanted something a bit smaller on say a 6-7 foot rod.

Cub, I have the gosa range (bar 18000)

Fri, 2010-10-29 07:51

And the 4000 and 5000 are both fantastic reels. Used up here in Dampier as our designated Tuna reels, pre-rigged with slices. When we see tuna busting idle over and pops she goes, chucking slices at the school. Both are matched on Berkley dropshot Pros which makes the fishing fun, but the gosas are awesome. The missus has a 8000 on her Monster mesh (the rod is more powerful than that reel, but it was matched with a 14000 which she found to heavy. I mostly fish with a T curve lacunas Jig rod which should have had the 8000 on it, but now has the 14000.

I had another 5000 gosa but Poseiden claimed her.

I cant fault these reels. Yes they are more pricey, and I dont look at them as a beefed down Stella, rather as a beefed up Sheros, which I think is a great endorsement for the reel as the 2 Speros I have are also fantastic workhorses.

Cheers crasny.

Yer ive got a 18000 gosa as well that has slayed a few sambos. handles like aa dream.  Ive landed heaps of salmon to on my 8000. They are awesome reels. I do have a sort of budget this time round but i may wait a bit and do some more research and get the reel i want, (looks like its goin to be a stradic ci4 4000 or gosa 4000-5000) I just need to know if i need it for the line capacity or not as the stradic is a fair bit lighter than the gosa. Can get either for a similar price. Coz i also need a rod for it. lol

Yeh shame shimano doesnt have larger line capacity, 4000 size is good for max 15lb braid if you want capacity even then its pretty low still.

Saragosa sizes...

Fri, 2010-10-29 09:30

Look carefully at the Saragosa 4000 and 5000, they are both completely different sizes. 5000 gosa is more like 6000/8000 size reels with bugger all line capacity.

The Stradic Ci4 is good but not built as heavy duty as the Fi's. If you're gonna fish over 20lb, I'd go the Fi's. Internally the Ci4s are built more for "finesse" fishing, hence the lighter weight.

hmm that might rule out the ci4 then. might be better with the fi. its about 50 bux cheaper too. which would be better put to some braid. or even the 5000 size.

Line capacity or other problem. Just interested as I love mine, and the boss loves hers, and that is even compared with a couple of very top end OS reels i have, but they are older.

They aren't that bad. I fit 300m of 15lb on my Stradic 3000, 300m of 20lb on my Sustain 4000, and 250m of 30lb on my Stella 4000.

Well, had a go at Goodz 2500

Mon, 2010-11-01 11:21

Well, had a go at Goodz 2500 Stradic yesterday.....got a nice fat whiting on it (not that it tested it out....but was fun) but he never let me near his 4000 jig outfit....he was always too busy catching amberjack!!! He did let me turn the handle a few times.....hahaha

Anyhow, after feeling the Stradic, I think I can safely say that the Stradics are much smoother than the Tierra's....less spool capacity, but a lot smoother.

On similar sized Ambers, the Stradic 4000 probably knocked over the fish a bit quicker than the Tierra 4000, but the Stradic had PE3 (not many metres left after the first run....) and the Tierra PE2 (spool is quite large so line capacity was not an issue). Both handled 80 cm Ambers without a drama.

I would go a stradic 4000.

Cheers for that johnf. Yer i think i have decided to go the stradic, even over the saragosa at this point as the stradic is lighter, and winds more line per turn. Appreciate the feedback everyone.

I had a Tierra 3000 for all

Mon, 2010-11-01 21:17

I had a Tierra 3000 for all of one fish.. that is until my mate casted it out for me while we were fishing the rock walls in Airley Beach and left the drag tightened. Something slammed the bait and took off, my Tierra 3000 and matching tierra rod followed.  I had cuts all over my hands and legs from trying to chase after it. Once the rod hit the drink and took off under the water like it was getting pulled by a boat i knew it was over. I was shattered.. and so was my mate!!

The one fish i caught was about 10 minutes before that, a nice little trevally. I was pretty happy with how the outfit performed. I lesson learned!

i have the Daiwa Tierra 4000

Tue, 2010-11-02 15:17

i have the Daiwa Tierra 4000 loaded with 30lb braid and has maybe 220m on her spool, comes with a spare spool which will see 20lb braid fill it up. drag is smooth and has handled nicely. a fair opponent for the Shimano Stradic that's for sure.

Either one and you'd be happy.
