They look the goods, was going to get a 3500h for chucking metals around.

My only concern would be if they're robust enough to handle bait fishing on the beach

or throwing poppers and metals around i was looking at the 3500 but it weighs the exact same as the 4000h but the 4 has more line cap   i just dont know how large the reel is that was my concern i know daiwa 4000 are approx the same size as a shimano 6000 but is the vadel a bigger reel then a normal daiwa 4000?

Looks ok. Yes its a true Daiwa 4000 size. Same line capacity as Shimano 6000's. 3500 Daiwa more like 5000.

I'd go Shimano for midrange gearing material though.

Nah mate , cant say ive had a great deal to with much beach fishing over the years so havent even heard of that model. I do know the vadal was designed for shore casting however and sounds about perfect for wat your doing. Both shimano and daiwa are great products but in the last few years all my stuff is daiwa (rods and reels, except a few samurai rods ) except my heavy marlin gear and i couldnt be happier with the way its performed
