Dawesville Cut all nighter

Arrived at Dawesville Cut and fished off a platform near the carpark, facing south.

Fished the surface on an outgoing tide with no luck. Changed over to paternoster rig and fished the bottom as the tide started ripping in. Ended up with 4 sized KG whiting ranging from 28 to 32cm, throwing just as many back.

Woke up to just before sunrise and got some peaceful fishing for about 30mins. Then in the blink of an eye, had about 6 senior citizens fishing over the top of us, with PLENTY of others arriving and fishing in each other's pockets. Wasn't the most pleasant experience so we packed up and left. Left as the herring and gardies started firing, but couldn't handle having other fishos quite literally casting over the top of us.

Don't want to turn this report into a rant, but if the tables were turned, and it was us who arrived after the Senior's, I wonder how they would of react!

Apart from the early morn rush, it was nice to bag my first ever KGs. Was very keen to cook them up and see for myself how tasty they are!!

fishing there for years. Pity they haven't learned any fishing etichet in that time. Good to see you got some nice KGs anyway.

The signs there...

...actually say that seniors have priority as far as those platforms go. I can see the thinking there but what shits me off is they hog up the platforms during weekends and school holidays as well, when small children are forced to have to climb down the rocks and fish.

Fair enough on weekdays 'cause presumbably they're retired and can fish any day of the week but fair go when the kids are trying to have a fish on the weekend.

Should have tried the mouth

Should have tried the mouth of the cut after you left! I've caught 8 salmon there this season and big schools of bull herring are starting to show.

yeh i should of Beau!

When you say the mouth, which spots fish best? North wall facing south, South wall facing north, the end of the groynes? Looks like plenty of good spots according to google maps.

I understand the platforms are for the olds, thats fine. It's more the way they just rock up and away they go, without any consideration of other fishos, young or old. -It's quite entertaining though, watching two grey nomads in a grumbling match!

The very northern groyne mate. I just got back. Got a feed of herring and a 4.5-5kg salmon. I'll put up a post and pictures later. Surfing time!

the locals down there can

the locals down there can be VERY teritorial.. esp on a certain jetti in front of a certain restaurant.. ive seen plenty of arguements down there.. which is sad because the jetti is big that certainly isn't what fishing is about..

Good to hear you got a feed though.. and the ocean end is definately the way to go if you dont mind climbing the rocks..
