Day Light savings - your opinion

I was just wondering everyones views on DLS.

I for one are happy the are coming in, I cant wait to get out and fish those glass out summer afternoons.

At work for 8 hours a day with an hour travel time each way without it I cant get out for a fish.

nothing better than gettin up at 330am to go to work after the sun has decended at about 2230 "NOT". I don't have any children but up here sending your children to bed when it's broad daylight is no fun for anybody. playing sport in the afternoon is great to for the kids to do after school as they now finish at 130 (real time) so at least they can get a great big dose of cancerous sun. plus playing sport up here normally starts about 630pm so with the real time being 530 it will only be 45'C so dehydration and sun stroke should go well. The labour parties form of democratic (or was that dictatership)style of forcing daylight saving onto us got them one of the term in government (clever ha). referendom two thousand or so might see it come in, till then hope not.

Wishin I was fishin and only 500k's to the water..

or against it.  Younger people seems to want it.   I think DLS is good for is

A....travelling, especially hot weather, leave say 7.00am really 6.00am

B....pulling your craypots, go out at 8.00am really 7.00am

DISLIKES

A......Like to go down to the club on a hot night, sit and have fish & chips, but its a    hour later still to hot

B......hate cooking bbq say 6.00pm really 5.00pm and still bloody hot, especially in Leeman, we get hot afternoon sun straight on front of our van/annexe

C......when kids were little in Melbourne, trying to get them to sleep when still daylight, everybody go to bed and there'd be kids playing out in the street 10.00pm, while we tried to get sleep to get up at 4.30am to go to work.

Thats mine.....Bob can't stand it full stop.

When the clocks are turned back would they then want to lose the hours pay?

I leave home at 5.45am to drive 80k's to work and am heartily sick of doing it in the dark. The guys who like to start early on site can't which finishes their day in the hottest part of the afternoon and then home to drink too much because it's light till 9 and too bloody hot for the wife to cook.

But it has its good and bad points. I loike to fish around sunup and sundown. So in daylight savings I can sleep in a little longer, but have to stay out a bit later.

Get real dudes, it makes a difference for one day, then you kinda get used to it. The sun doesn't stay out any longer!!! It can't tell the time!!

It's great for them that work all day, you've still got time to do stuff when you get home. For those that work nights, it doesn't meen you work an extra hour, cause you start an hour later, der!!

It seems strange for kids to go to bed while it's light but, if they're tired, they'll sleep. If they're not tired then buy a black out blind!! It's not rocket science.

I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

If you work a twelve hour day the last thing you think is hey I wiil go fishing for a couple of hours then go to work again.  it gets hot up here and starting work that hour earlier means we get out of bed an hour earlier, which means an hour more of sun and heat for the day.  Roeborne was 45 deg by 900am last year.  Daylight savings sucks if you work twelve hour days outside.

water is expensive when you have to buy 10000 litres at a time......

and how do they think we are suppose to tell what time it is???? a clock works on 24 hours in a day so throw in another hour and the time gets all thrown out of whack.....

oh bugger it, i might just have to spend more time fishing..... damn... actually the extra hour will bugger around the fish feeding times as well wont it???? far out, this dls just throws the whole world out of whack.....

Definitely against it
One of the reasons business put up for it was the time delay if you had to business with the eastern states--WHOOPEE--now they say WA is the power house of the Australian economy--well let the change their times to suit ours, after all we're making all the money.
Hated it the very first time we tried it with kids wingeing all the time from lack of sleep and shiftwork[8 hour shifts then ,not 12] made it near impossible to get sleep.
Everyone I've spoken to bar one has been against it BIG TIME

not bothered really; apart from ignorant stiffs in parliment wasting tax payers money talking sh#t, could spend the money more wisely on fish research.....

but got to admit when i hear local business call for it cause it makes doing business with the East coast easier then kinda illogical when most WA peolpe wanna split from the Ecoast mob anyways. if you are so insistent on being self sufficent then why worry about what the Ecoasters.....

if ya gonna bring it in then align all the dates to switching on the same day.......

time better spent fishing i reckon

The 'federation' of states actually reaching consenus - I won't hold my breath Laughing

I remember when I was working at Telstra - I was trying to line up a(n) (MS) Net Meeting between stakeholders in Tazzy, NT, QLD, SA, Vic and NSW and me in WA. What a bloody nightmare LOL!

We had product clients throughout Oz - so we dealt with ES first and WA in the afternoon.

If there was any issues that had to go to ES management or the 'supa techs', we'd organize that the day before - to be handled before C.O.B ES.

Maybe we should adopt China's approach and have the same time Tongue out - would make life interesting. Of course we would use WA as the standard ! Wink
