Decent Spearo Day

Headed out to the islands today with spearing only in mind, glassy conditions nearly all day and crystal clear water.  Found a couple of good ledges with a few crays and found one bomber trout ledge with heaps on it for future missions.  The bluebone were extremely flighty and hard work (except these 2), saw a couple of crackers but couldn't get any where near range.  Trout went 68 and 66, both of them just too inquisitive for their own good.  Great day out cruising back in at top speed with a coupla coldies, well and truly cactus now after three full on days on the water, quite glad the winds picking up for the next couple. :)  Happy days.

well done mate, you picked out some bloody tastey specimen there.

i noticed all the fish have been bled, ive only ever bled pelagics, does it improve the eating quality much? im assuming you spike, then bleed the fish?

Usually bleed them in the water on the way back to the boat and then spike if theres any life left in them.  If you bleed them properly you usually won't end up with any blood in the flesh which will make them that much better to eat.  The bluebone fillets are just sensational and are the whitest of white, has to be the best fish up here easily.

crays

Sun, 2011-05-29 11:38

Crays were from Poddy's ledge and one bluey.  The rest were out near the area we found on the way in from Gully's spot, some other ledges running accross the back of the island - top country around there.  Couldn't find anything out near long or round, was very quiet.  Took a 25l jerry but only used 80L and came back in through Sunday and South Murion, about 70nm so know that its easily within range now, was cruising at 28 all the way back.  Look forward to exploring more out there and finding Big John's big red ground.  It was wetty temp too, but only just, got me the spearing amp back thats for sure.

Life is tough when you have to man handle a second table to display your catch

Top day Ads - a great selection.  Great news on the range too.  Overnighters on the cards hey.
