Deckie Available

Hey all,

Going through a bit of a tough time atm with some personal/family issues and lost my job last week.  Its my birthday this week and thought I might see if anyone is looking for a deckie tues-thurs this week and tues onward next week.

Happy to split costs for fuel/bait/ice, help pack the boat, bring some lunch and some soft drinks, clean catch and boat after. Pretty much anywhere metro mandurah to two rocks, doesn't matter if river, inshore or offshore.  Just happy to get out on the water for crabbing/squidding/whiting/bottom bounce or trolling. Have all my own gear also.

0423811759 if anyone is looking for a deckie. I have my skippers ticket and know how to help out thoughout the day.

Bryan

It's always uplifting to read a thread like this.  well done everyone.  Unfortunately I am a weekend fisherman and not that much atm much to my disgust!  hope things look up for you soon Bryan.  have you considered offering sounder use lessons as a form of income earning?  I am aware of a guy is SA that does something along those lines.  perhaps there is a market for teaching people how to use their sounder properly?

I have a spot booked for thurs with Dazza1611 and today have received another 3 offers by PM.

Appreciate all the offers and kind words.  Definately a shit time, went to centrelink this morning to be given a referlence number and told to do it all online.  Go home, can't log in.  A phone call to the complaints line led to nearly 3 hours being handballed between staff and tech departments who argued about what I was and wasnt able to do even though I was trying as they were on the phone, they would tell me I should see this option, but I was not able to get past the login stage to get access to the centrelink section to lodge documents and get the ball rolling.  After 2 hours trying to sort it out I got frustrated as the lady in tech support was not listening to what I was saying.  She told me im sick of you and then when I got shitty and demanded to speak to a supervisor, she put me on hold for 35 mins more and transferred me to another department.  Thankfully the last person I spoke with was really helpful and simply said if you cannot log in I will book an appointment for you to go down and speak to someone personally, also lodged a complaint for me about the technical issues and attitude of the tech support lady. I followed this up to a call to the federal minister for human services office and put in a complaint.

Hopefully I am turning the corner now and able to start getting back on my feet again.  Nothing but love for my Wife, little boy and family for supporting me unconditionally through this tough time.  Much respect for the Fishwrecked community for the offers for a day out fishing to take some time for pleasure in amongst all the stress.

Bryan

Ive been down south for the weekend.  We went out from woodies at about 8ish on the FFB with good condtions drifting in a sw direction. Dazza1611 put an unweighted mulie out when we started the drift which barely hit the water before going off with a sambo.  From there it took a while for me to hook up on my overhead with a paternosta, I think my hooks were too large for the depth we were in.  I lost a rig in the broken ground and put on a snelled rig with a small running weight and put a smaller rig on the 20lbs spinning outfit.  Pretty much straight away I we were getting wrasse, butterfish etc.  I put out a live wrasse on the big rod and kept fishing the smaller gear.  The wind swung till it was blowing us back inshore at about 9:30 and we reset the drift.  Still getting butterfish, then I got a 33cm Blackarse which went into the esky.  Daz got a 40odd cm dhuie which was returned.

We kept at the drift for a bit and were thinking about moving when my overhead seriously took off.  I couldnt get the rod out of the holder under the tension so I thumbed the spool and thankfully it stopped running.  I got the rod out of the holder and thought for a few seconds I had lost it, but the weight was still there and I think it turned and came back to the boat.  I got most of the line back from the first run before it took off again which had me thinking definately ray or shark.  A fair few more runs and then I would get the line back, after 5 mins or so I got it close enough to the boat to see it was a shark about 1.2 mt.  Everytime we got it close to the boat it would take off again, but eventually we had it boatside.  I asked Daz if he had a priest, but sadly not, so we spent the next few mins tiring it out before trying the gaff.

The skin was so tough the gaff wouldnt go in, so I got the shark right boatside to see it was a bronzie and daz was able to get the gaff into the mouth.  From there we cautiously pulled the head up out of the water and onto the gunnel rail.   The shark stayed placid which I thought was quite nice, so I despatched it with my dive knife through the back of the head.  Off with the tail, fins, head and gutted and into the esky.

I cleaned up most of the blood and we were pretty much on our way back in around 1:30.   We washed the boat down at CPBA, Then back to Daz's place where he refused payment for fuel, My shout next time! Thanks for a good day out.  When I got home I took out the backbone, cut steaks down to the skin and cut them away from the skin to save my knives and its now in several tupperware containers in the freezer for a few good feeds.
