Deckwash setup

My mates picked up his new to him second hand barcrusher and hes enlisted me to do the fitup of his electrics and other items.

The boat is minus a deckwash and he wants one. what the boat does have is a auto pump connected to the pickup and feeding the live bait tank via a switch on the dash.

So instead of feeding the bait tank as he wont use it, is it possible to hook up a hose and use as a deckwash. Whats got me worried going this way is the pump constantly running when not being used if not switched off and being under pressure when the water  isnt flowing causing the pump to burn out. normally a typical jabsco deckwash setup the pump only primes when the water is needed and can be left on for periods of time.

Has anyone got a deckwash set up like this or is my concern of burnout real.

Cheers Paul

There will be next to no pressure with that as a deckwash pump.

You would be better off buying a 12v pressure pump that will switch on and off automatically as you use the hose with a trigger nozzle.

You already have the water supply there so would be an easy install.

The pump runs continuosly

The pump runs continuosly into the live bait tank anyway. Typically they get burnt out by being left on when the boat is out of the water. I doubt that it will give either the volume or pressure desired for a deck wash.

Thanks for the reply .Yeah that was the next question on pressure from the pump. Was trying to save my mate some cash from having to buy a dedicated pump system .Will look into it more.

I run one of these pumps for my bait tank with my deck wash pickup running from the bottom outlet.  I run a seperate 12v johnson pump mounted inside my back compartment that feeds a hose and pressure gun in the cockpit.  The live bait tank pump wont have the volume or pressure to run a deck wash.
