Demersal Ban

First of all, this isn’t an original idea, saw it posted on FB.

There are bigger things at play in the world at the moment, but logistically, how hard would it be to move the demersal ban forward 5 or so months?

Keep the Cockburn Snapper ban in place as that is when the fish are actually spawning, but for the demersal ban?

Interesting BJ

Is the demersal ban in place not only for Snapper but other fish?

When do Dhuies, Baldies etc spawn, I am not sure, but if they did make a move it would be a game changer for sure.

I wonder if anyone has actually put it to the Fisheries Minister for consideration,

I thought the timing currently was partly due to spawning and partly due to public pressure.  (fishing around xmas holidays)

thought I read somwhere that Dhus spawn sometime january to february (peak perid) Nov to April  (quick google)

Not sure the ban helps the dhu too much anyway. Dec-Jan is when they come in close to spawn and baldies are jan-feb.

Maybe I should have taken credit for someone elses idea, I reckon it has merit though. More chance of this happening than a freeze on boat rego's etc.

No rational opinion from you then simo?

You won't get a demersal ban

You won't get a demersal ban shifted while simo and skull are out there raping the stocks. Logging off again to get more essential popcorn  from the supermarket.

I reckon when this is finished we will all be over being told what to do. Maybe a year without a demersal closure would be good.

I reckon it has definite merit, I always was of the impretion it was to take pressure off the fishery and nothing to do with spawning. How good would it be when we can actually start socialising again at the end of the year (hopefully) to go out in October and nail a few Dhuies before putting the pots in.

The idea has merrit but I'm not in favour because once the salmon hit town every man and his dog will be heading out anyway defeating the purpose.

If Markey Mark does ban boating however, I think he should look to lifting the demersal ban to compensate. Lets face it though, the majority of the ban is during Blowvember so heading wide is going to be difficult anyway.

Maybe the Swan algal bloom and Rona will have a positive effect on crab and fish stocks?
