Demersal Closures.....time to show our strength
Submitted by Belly Fish on Thu, 2022-08-18 09:35
Hi all,
This is an email from Recfishwest foreshadowing what might be announced today.
If they ignore the public consultation, this will be devastating for tackle shops, boat yards, coastal towns and all of us.
Time to act.....strongly I would suggest

Whatever you do ...... Do
Whatever you do ...... Do NOT respond to the survey.
This will be seen as making a choice and neither of these two options are what we want. If you want to vent, email Don Punch or your local Minister

manipulation
Plain and simple. Do the survey and the retoric will be, overwhelming support for their proposal, dont do it and it will be, we asked and no one responded.
They have very sophisticated spin machunes and think it through at the outset.
We had our chance to put multiple fishers and shooters into parliment and failed miserably.

Most fishos would only get to
Most fishos would only get to fish on the weekend . Of the 94 days allocated only 27 of those days are a weekend day and of the 123 days only 36 of those days are a weekend day , and thats only if the weather allows you to get out. The bread and butter species are about to get an almighty hammering . I'm sure there are some smart people out there that can come up with a plan that would be suitable to all but it just seems that this goverment likes to rule with a heavy hand just as we have seen during the covid lockdowns etc. The smug way that these labor ministers go about their business in all issues because they have the majority seats and can pass everything they want really pisses me off.

Fishing Any Vessel Boat Blockade City Inbound ?
Time to Show Strenght. !
Just like any other very very poor decision in Govt is someone arranging a fishing vessel, boat, kayake, ski, city parade in protest of Don Punch's poor annoucement . I would definately participate and I'm sure so would thousands of of others. Imagine everyone with all fishing vessels enroute to Parliment House at peak hour ! ALL boats ALL vessels ALL Fishing People
I mean if we want to make a statement to Govt - everyone with a boat, trailer, ski, kayake should all main avenues on a peak Hour morning in Sept some Morning with everyone with a fishing vessel of any sorts and drive to Parliment House in Protest and grid lock West Perth.
this is about something we are all very passionate about, this is economics and the flow on impact to all sorts of communities in the West Coast Bio Region, businesses, life experiences.
jsut saying, im not n face crook but a thought.
Say No to 9 Month Fishing Ban
Don Punch is not fit for this portfolio.

What Mr Parry did not know,
What Mr Parry did not know, is that the DPIRD scientists and researchers were assisting RFW to put together a proposal at almost every meeting.
Were they working with us and on something different in secret simultaneously?

There is an opportunity
There is an opportunity coming for rec fishers to make a very public and unified public statement about these proposals.
In the past, all the talk has rarely amounted to much of a turnout at such events.
The challenge for rec fishos is to actually make the effort this time.
Let's hope they do.

So what are we going to do
Not a publice speaker and not politically minded, but the way I see it, unless we do something very visible and knowledgeable, we are going to get hammered.
I believe we need to do do bannered protests in a highly visible publice area. Outside Parliament House (during sitting sessions) probably between 6:00AM to 6:00Pm with cleverly worded placcards (show us the science ?????). I am happy to be on a Roster and if the community think this is a viable idea, we need to get hundreds of volunteers to do the same
I think we also need to seek an audience with the TV channels, 7, 9 and 10 to try and arrange an interview with a good speaker (bellyfish) who has a substantial knowledge of Rec fishing and can talk to an interviewer who will probably not really be wanting to listen, but rather push their pre conceived thoughts
Their are sessions coming up from what I can see in September
If anyone thinks this is viable / worthwhile, lets get it going. We have more to lose by not doing anything than by losing a few hours sleep or work time or leisure time etc

I love the post and the
I love the post and the general intent mate Every single person on here and Facebook etc that are having their say, needs to actually put the effort in with this. Call, email ministers etc organise shit, show up. If it means as much to them as the posts imply, then the effort needs to be put in. People need to try keep an open mind with this issue and not generically bag commercial fishing and fishers as well. uneducated comments or existing mental bias doesn't help anything, everyone is free to have their opinions, though make sure you actually elieve what ya think. Do some research and form your own opinions going forward and direct the apparent anger/frustration in the right direction.

votes.
Emailing does very little as all the firearms owners on here will verify, having taken the same approach regarding the proposed legaslative changes recently anounced. A staffer will respond saying they will pass it on to the member and then it gets deleated or you will receive a generic response. The same thing happens with petitions.
Only 1 thing motivates polititians and that is saving their own ass. Voting them out is the only alternative and have as many as possible replaced with independants or parties on record as being supportive of our life style. One of the two majors will always form government so the balance of power becomes critical.
Parliment is a numbers game and only 1 or 2 independants will do very little. A how to vote list for fishers shooters and hunters needs to be developed so we can get behind these sympathetic parties on mass. Only then, when these individuals feel their own position is under threat, will you see any meanigful change.
The immediate challenge it to get all these organisations together to develop a stratergy going forward.

My email to my local
My email to my local member
Hi Margaret
I hope all is well and it’s great to see the progress on the South Landsdale PS build which will hopefully take a fair bit of pressure off the other schools in the area.
You will remember that I wrote to you in April regarding the tightening of restrictions on catching demersal fish species. I apologise in advance if this comes off as terse and my issue is with the McGowan govt and not yourself as our local representative.
Unfortunately it comes as no surprise that the McGowan government has yet again made a predetermined decision lacking transparency and without consulting key stakeholders as you can see in the below media release from Recfishwest (RFW). The attempted government takeover of the crayfishing industry, closing of sustainable old growth logging and the closing of the School of the Air are other prime examples of this.
As you’d be aware, RFW is the peak body for representing the interests of recreational fishing in WA and are government funded through our recreational fishing licences. and it appears that apart from initial discussions, RFW appear to have been deliberately cut out of discussions leading to the proposed restrictions and had not even been provided the consultation papers prior to the announcement. How can the government make a decision so detrimental to recreational fishing without consulting with the peak body they have set up to represent our issues and funded through compulsorily end user fees? Why are we paying such high recreational fishing fees to fund an independent body to represent our interests that the govt will only sincerely consult with when convenient?
https://recfishwest.org.au/news/recfishwest-rejects-governments-proposals-to-ban-fishing-for-dhufish-and-pink-snapper-for-up-to-nine-months/
The proposals put forward are asking rec fishers who have invested a small fortune on boats and pump over $2 billion into the local economy through local tourism and supporting local business to chose between eating a turd sandwich or a toasted turd sandwich. I for one will not be responding to the ‘consultation’ as neither option makes owning and maintaining a boat worthwhile during the colder months when taking the family over to an island for a swim etc is not an option and I believe that the outcome of the ‘consultation’ has already been predetermined.
I respectfully request that you visit locally owned businesses in your electorate and see first-hand how this will affect Tyrone at Tackle HQ in Wangara, Mick at Shore Catch in Wangara, Ben at MACA who are all local business owners and local employers who stand to lose everything they have built up with the stroke of a pen. I’d also suggest opening dialogue with your wider constituents and see what detrimental effect with will have on interstate tourism for small, already struggling towns like Jurien, Kalbarri, Greenhead, Cervantes, Leeman etc, once thriving crayfishing towns that now rely on holiday makers to keep local businesses going. What flow on effect will this have on fish stocks when people just drive further and hammer the fisheries outside of the West Coast Bioregion north of Kalbarri and east of Augusta?

It's time to hook our boats
It's time to hook our boats up at the same time and do a protest or 3 through the city at peak hour. Only way these people are going to listen! How do we go about it if someone doesn't have social media?

Proposed new laws
My sincere thanks to those who have fought & continue to fight on our behalf.
Can anyone tell me with certainty whether or not the whole commercial catch from Westcoast bioregion is used solely to supply the domestic market.
If this is not so surely it would be an appropriate restriction if the draconian proposals are introduced.
If our fish stocks are as threatened as much as we are being told then it seems appropriate to limit any catch to domestic use only be that recreational or commercial catch.
