Dinghy owners favourite outboard engine.

Just to get a bit of a picture on what seems to be the popular outboard and Horsepower rating for tinnies less than 4 mtrs.
What is your favourite outboard to power yours?
Mine 18HP (Tohatsu) but use 8HP (Mariner) for trolling in the pressed alli skin tinny.
Like to know what top sp[eed it achieves.

Dinghy outboard
I had a 3.75 dart for 4 years with a 15 Yamaha. She always started 2nd pull cold, first pull when warm. My 10 year old daughter could start it and it never missed a beat. Gps speed was a bit over 22 knots and it used bugger all fuel. I've got an 18 foot glass boat now, which is great, but still miss the dinghy.

I've got a 4.2m tinny,
I've got a 4.2m tinny, Quintrex Dory, Stacer Seahorse hull. Its got a 30 hp Yamaha CV 2 stroke. The thing starts 1st pull everytime, give it some choke, bit of trottle and away she goes. Its never given any trouble. Its a pretty simple motor, obviously not a smooth or quiet as a 4 stroke, but its cheap, and does the trick for a 2nd boat tinny. It taken me all over the river, the Sound, to way past the reef at Coral Bay hauling in mackies.
As Chris Raff said, it like to be opened up a bit after chugging around for a while, or she coughs and farts a bit

For me the sweetest little
For me the sweetest little outboard I have ever had was my 15hp Yammie 2stroke,
started first pull, never missed a beat and was unbreakbale. In fact I loved it so much I brought it with from SAFAland when I came over. To my knowledge it is still going strong with it's new onwer and now must be 10 years old and never been opened!

Honda all the way
I've got a 3.9 Quintrex trevally with a Honda BF15A 15hp 4 Stroke on the back. Its over 10 years old and is a dream to use. Mind you I do look after it well and do the servicing myself.
As for speed, dont know as no gps :(
Best thing, no oil, smoke and it's quiet for the kids and misses!

Had an 8hp honda on my little
Had an 8hp honda on my little tinnie, it was so quiet and used about 4 litres for a whole days trolling. I wanted more speed, so put a 20 honda on, and the boat now flies like a speed boat, yet I can still troll all day on a few litres. Both engines would start 1st pull every time,
Honda are beautiful little machines.
