Dingi Retrieval on the beach - Ideas anyone??
FW crew,
I have a 4.2 Quinni Dory with a 25 hp yami 4 stroke on the back... That plus fuel and a big battery is often too big to drag up a beach even when there are extra people around...
Usually its me and the missus and its alomost impossible to get up unless you either skull drag with a snatch strap or unhook the trailer then wind the boat onto it then skull drag that up the beach...
By the way I`m talking beaches that are remote with not many people around so trying to avoid dropping the tyres and reversing to the water line and risking getting bogged or worse...
I`ve used rollers under the hull etc etc but now i want to come up with a better idea, something you can use under the hull to be able to skull dragged with the Ute without taking half a millimetre of ally of each time... She ten years old now and its been done too many times already so trying to think of an idea that will save it and prolonge having to buy anothery...
I want to be able to get it above the high tide mark but avoid having to put it onto the trailer each time...
Rack your brains fellas and see what brilliance you can come up with...

Dingy recovery
When you say rollers, are you referring to cut lengths of PVC? (like storm water pipe)
Either loose or in one case the guy had joined sections of PVC with short lengths of rope.
That's the best I've seen.

I use h/duty inflatable
I use h/duty inflatable rollers with my Quinnie weighs about a ton and they work a treat. Boat shops have them and reasonably priced.

Fenders
I use those large blue and white fenders, they are very strong. Couple of them and get someone to keep putting them under the hull as you drag the boat along.

hub on front
Have a hub with spare attached on front drawbar. I basically push the trailer down, put boat on, and then puill trailer out with a rope. Wheel on front stops hitch digging in. Got a 420 dory too with 25 yamaha and dive gear. do it at seabird and moore river but u still got put tyres on car and trailers down. tanks pump tyres up real quick though:)

I'm with Turboz
after living and fishing in Broome for a while that's how the locals do it.
With the 3rd wheel on the drawbar you just walk the trailer out to the boat, winch the boat on then with a long rope or joined snatch straps your just pull that up above the water line or out of soft sand. Seen it done with boats up to 6m.
Easy peasy

Without a doubt the best
Without a doubt the best way, for a dinghy tho you could just use an inflatable jocky with a wheel barrow style tyre rather than a full hub set up. We have pulled our 2 tonne boat out using this method so with a dinghy you'll be laughing.

i drag mine up to dry ground
i drag mine up to dry ground with a old snatchy hooked to the front of the boat nd hooked over the back roller of the trailer, get out nd get rid of the strap n jus reverse the trailer up to the boat, making sure the trailer nd the boat is inline, line the keel up with the roller n reverse the trailer up under the boat to about half way then just winch it the rest of the way, the boat just slowley lowers down onto trailer, staightens up nd drags up the rest of the way, make sure tha motors tilted up all the way too! its easier to do than describe, this method works on on all the usual tinnys nd trailers ive found, lets us know how ya go/questions

I think he's after a way to
I think he's after a way to pull the boat up above the high tide mark for the night...like when you are camping somewhere for a while...without having to put it on the trailer every day. I use an inflatable boat roller up at Warroora on my 12 footer. I think you can get heavier ones for bigger boats. That or go fenders or the pvc rollers like Shammy suggested....sounds good.

Clamp on wheels
HAve a look at clamp on wheels about 100 bucks I thinks from a boat shop.. I modified a set for my previous tinny by putting a new axle on them and fitting ride on lawn mower wheels that have a bearing in them...made up a hitch that bolted on the front of the tinny to enable me to hook it up to the tow ball...actually towed my tinny from Coral Bay to the ramp and Mauds landing like this. I have used a tow strap on the front with the wheels as well worked a treat. Can either fit the wheels while the boat is floating or drag it up as far as possible then fit...easier in the water tho...didnt need to change the bearings in two years just hosed the wheels and made sure grease was not in short supply...anyway the bearings are noly 10 bucks or so from a lawn mower outfit... I used them on a 3.85 Quin Explorer...carried when towing dive gear, 50 litres fuel, battery and had a 30hp Mariner electric start on the back so even tho a light tinny a bit of weight added. I try to find a photo to post...sorry dont know how to add a photo to this send me a message with your email and I will send you one that way if you want...

Tank your nearly on the money
Tank your nearly on the money I`m thinking, I had thought of getting a couple of alloy tubes welded either side down low on the stern to be able to fit wide tyres and pin em some how that pretty much lifts the arse off the sand...That way you can skull drag it with the ute providing you can hook up low enough on the bow that virtually no weight will be on the sand.... I mean sure you can skull drag it on the sand but like Woody is saying its places like Warroora where you go for long periods and could be launching a couple of times a day so its no good for a Hull thats 10 yrs old and already been done too many times.... The fenders acting as rollers are as good as any idea but not when your trying to make it as hassle free as possible when you go away with the missus....
Woody I didnt give you a Warroora update after our trip mate coz we were only up there for a couple of days and made the mistake of checking my email & work had me flying outa Perth at 5am on a Wed a week earlier than i was meant to be....I got that email at about 9am on the Monday so needless to say I had my ring hanging out to get all our shit packed and drive all the way back down south unpack and back up to Perth Tues ready to fly Wed...
Coupla Macks and a nice Ranking on Rubber this was all....Good fun all the same and will be back next yr....
