Just did a quick measure on google maps through the river. 15 nautical miles would be a fair estimate.

I saw the title and thought it was from El Questro Adam. That would be a very long lunch!

Don’t forget speed limits

It's about 15 miles but the large majority is a 5 knot speed limit so you need to allow 3 hours.

Many years ago I was on my dinghy with a couple of mates near Ascot when a navy boat came screaming past. We found out later that it was off a Yank carrier that was at anchor in the sound.

Anyway we were putting along when a habrbour and lights boat came over to us (going on memeory of something that happened over 30 years ago) and asked us if we could drag our anchor to locate a body.

What had happened was the wake from the yank boat had toppled a dinghy and both on board fell in. One of them couldn't swim and he drowned.

His body was found a few days later.

Check the charts

Just as a reference, most charts should show the navigable parts of the river including that far up.

Also there is a Swan/Canning River boating guide put out by the DoT that is very useful as it shows speed restriction areas, water ski areas etc.

There's also a bunch of moorings that you can pick up throughout the river. I think they are on DoT too. There are quite a few in Perth water if you want to overnight there.

Mandoon next door is the go!

Mandoon next door is the go! There's room for a couple of boats at best on the jetty so would suck to hike up the 15 miles at 5 knots to find a boat on it!

measuring distance

Navionics chart viewer (free online) has a measuring function, just need to click in to tell it point A & point B.. it will then show the exact distance between the two points..
