Diving the wreck site of the Batavia

Another quick wreck video for anyone who is interested. Lucky enough to get a quick dive over the Batavia site earlier in March this year. Not much left on the site so it makes for a short video:) but still a cool little dive.

Dunno mate , theres still something to see , in that theres cannon and anchors ( the only big bits after 385 years?)

from the prob the most famous old wreck in Australia.

That old picture of the hangings , and the whole story gives me shivers.

On a different note , did anyone hear on a outcome on that boat found while looking

for the lost maylasian plane?, and did I hear right , it was 4km down!!

Image of the shipwreck found on the ocean floor of the southern Indian Ocean.

Yea the swell was pretty border line that day. Had to swim in and towed off the site between sets, but definately a cool experience diving Australia's second known oldest wreck and thinking about the people, the names and everything that went along with the Batavia story. Cheers for watching!

Saw the news report when the 4k wreck was found. pretty cool, must be hundreds more out there in deep water, I think the museum guessed it as being and 18 or 19th century whaler possibly???

Old map

I have an old map that suggests a shipwreck found near Wyndham pre-dates the Trial? Making the Batavia the 3rd oldest known wreck if it is accurate

if it is an old map then it

if it is an old map then it would appear to be discounted as being older especially if there is no credible account of it still?

Thats pretty interesting,

Thats pretty interesting, recently went to a Makkasan land site up near Cape Londonderry. From memory the museum didn't have a date on the site but in general it's very likely boats had been coming here from the north before the Dutch ships. Pretty likely there are older wrecks which may or may never be found especially around the Kimberley. Very interesting!

personally I dont like the intertwining of fact and fiction, its either one or the other.
Fact is stranger than fiction.

If you have a real interest in it, then "Islands of Angry Ghosts" along with any of the other books by Hugh Edwards, Max Cramer, Philippe Godard, Henrietta Drake-Brockman

Agreed 100% about the film though, about 5 or 6 years back it was in the pipeline with Vinnie Jones/Andy MacDowell but seemed to have fallen apart unfortunately.
Not sure if Id be happy with a Hollywood "Pearl Harbour" style adaptation though

low down dirty dog used my footage to promote his book and pretended it was his, I watched it live (2hr delay) twice on Ch9 when he suggested that he dived the wreck and showed my footage of Max I felt like tracking the fuckwit down and punching his lights out. If anyone can find that footage of Carl and Fitzsimmons  wife Lisa  could you please share it here? Thanks in advance.....A carton of beer will be rewarded or equivilient
