G'day guys,
Is it illegal to drag net in the swan for prawns? I have seen some people doing it however I thaught netting of any kind was illegal in the swan.
Get back to me,
Cheers.

Swompa is correct
to make drag netting for prawns in the swan illegal would be un Australian , but these days very hard to get a feed of them not like the good old days of the late sixtys and seventys sent many a Saturday evening on the deep end of a drag net, hoping my Batta scout shoes (with the compass in the heel off course ) would be tough enough if I stood on a cobbler

I hope not
I hope not cause thats where i drag a net. lol
Its a bit funny having a marine reserve that does not come up on any maps, after some searching i found this link ( cant get the picture of it ) so you have to open the link and the PDF. www.dec.wa.gov.au/publications/doc_download/3493-swan-estuary-mp-map.html
The marine park near Point walter isn't listed on the fisheries exclusion zones for prawning , so as a far as i can work out it's all good for that area around point walter.
Now the Milyu area looks interesting because we used to go prawning right near this place, and i never knew it was a marine reserve. So i'm glad i havent been there in years otherwise i could of been doing the wrong thing and not knowing.
Most people arn't aware there is a closed season to dragging nets, but you can still use a dab net all year according to the rules.
I believe they banned drag nets in the Peel etc because of the damage and taking of blue swimmer crabs, and nothing realy to do with prawning itself.
