Drakesbrook Dam

Hi All,
Took the kids out for a drive last weekend and ended up at Drakesbrook Dam which looks like a nice spot for the kids to play and fresh water fish according to the sign thats been erected :) So we are going to head down again this weekend and have a bbq and i will chuck in a line.
From what i can find on the internet, its stocked yearly with trout and has been infested by redfin perch as well so does anyone have any tips about bait/lures to use? From what i can find on the fisheries website it isnt closed to fishing although its also not on the open all year round list either. Any advice most appreciated as the kids are a bit sick of catching blow fish (as am i!!!)
Cheers,

Up near dam head
Best for l/ based . Catch Redfin all day long. Peeled prawns work a treat on them. Fish toilet side of dam head ,on bank . About 15 m in from rocks. Big deep hole there in casting range from shore. I use soft plastics on land and yak there mainly . Dark green with fleck going through them. ( paddle tail ones) look like fat grub with ribs. When I get sick of that and I want to chill out. I go to running sinker and peeled coral prawns. Slim chance of trout. Wrong time of year. Redies taste pretty good. Good luck. Burley works a treat on them. Bread. Crushed prawn heads ,chook pellets.
