Fishing Down north mole this morning, bloke hooked something that looked like a ray... i went over to see if he needed a hand.. took my gaff over...

as fish came closer to surface.. it looked like a little sambo.. but once gaff was set . i soon realised what it was..

 

i think he gave it away to some asian guy

You see a lot of them diving and they're pretty cheeky, probably because most people won;t bother spearing them.

And the amazing thing is the Victorians sell them like hot cakes at the local fish and chips stores. Sold under the local name of 'butterfish' of course. Had a sample myself when over there. One bite and never again. Guess we have a better selection over here.

my mother caught one fom a boat in shark bay and was spewing when we told her it had to go back as it was no good, it was her first big fish from a boat too
