Epirb Servicing
Hi Scubafish
Unfortunately in our throwaway society your likely up for a new Epirb. I have been through the same previously with another model and the price to battery change was not cheap and at the time not far off a newer model with gps positioning enabled.
The AMSA website states that a beacon can only be serviced by the manufacturer who is identified on the side of the beacon, so if the manufacturer is no longer trading likely out of luck. Have you checked they havent just gone through a rebranding process and the old name no longer comes up.
I beleive CH Smith used to stock these. Shows as discontinued but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Government won't give me a pension either, seems my hobby farm is too big. 120 acre.
Regarding the EPIRB, had to send it as dangerous goods and the surcharge made the exercise cost more than buying a new one.

DIY but
Looked into it as I have one almost due. Could likely do it yourself, if you can find the batteries or get some made up. That will get the unit working fine, but the problem seems to be that unless the replacement was done by a registered service agent then it will not meet the requirements for certification/registration with AMSA. Bit of a tough deal and expensive considering the cost of a batttery would be low, but some would argue that DIY would not nescerssarily be able to test the electronics or evaluate for internal corrosion, nor check the integrity of waterproof seals etc.
My expring EPIRB was certified for battery life of 5 years, though it still tests fine. Saw that some newer units now have 7 or even 10 year battery.

On another note, I have this same issue and bought a new one. Can anyone tell

stryluggled to find the info on the webpage.

Update details
Last time I got a new EPIRB I just went to the AMSA site about EPIRB beacons and updated my details. Just put in the new beacon's HEX number and indicated the old one was discontinued. I still have the old one in the shed, but I think they recomend disposing of them. If you even pass through Fremantle you can just hand them in at Dept Transport office. The alternative is to cut out the battery yourself and dispose of that.

Made me check
Just checked my own beacons on the AMSA site. The sequence of menus was first to Sign In, then under the Beacons set of menus click "Update my beacon details". That should show all your registered beacons and their current status.
If you want to change the status, go back one level to the Beacons menu, then click the "Change Beacon Ownership" button. That will give you a menu to change beacon status, e.g. sold, disposed of etc . For example, with my old one which had expired, but I still have in the shed, I selected "Storage". Whichever status you select, it will then show a menu asking what type of device. Select "beacon" and it should then show you a list of all your beacons. Chose the one you want to change the status of and that should be it.

Update
Found a company in SA that say they can do E/BAY # dont think so # not KTI ones anyway.
Waiting on reply, not holding my breath.
Rang the AMSA and they say that the beacon Batt for KTI beacons can only be replace by the manufacture and as the company has been close for passed two years the beacon cannot be re registered with your without a new Batt,in other words throw it in the bin.
Absolute bull@!$# in my opinion.
