Exmouth East Side - Am I on the Right Track ?
Submitted by sjking on Mon, 2011-07-11 09:37
Hey guys,
Been sitting round waiting for this wind to stop blowing, hopefully tomorrow (Tuesday) looks OK. Never been out in Exmouth before and thus am only planning our tack by guess.
Think we will put boat in the water at Exmouth Boat Harbour and head SE to Cooper Shoals, Camplin and Bennett Shoals after that.
Looking for a feed, not so worried about trawling too much, although would do so if I was told it was worth it on the way.
Anyone suggest this is a bad idea, or suggest a different direction we should head.

Idea
You do get a few trout at those spots, but it is very hit and miss and pretty hard work. You do get a lot of blue line emps (some sized), moses perch, stripey sea perch (some sized) and quite a few trevally of different species. If you have a bigger boat I would head to a few of the shoals further into the gulf, they get less pressure and have some good fish (again it is a lot of sounding work to find the right spots within the shoal)

16FT
Define bigger, 16fter
More than happy to do a bit of travel to get onto a surer thing, just trying not to scare my lady (the decky) half to death. Gets me nowhere.

16 foot will get you there on the right days, places like snapper shoals, larkin etc etc, even Exmouth Reef. They are generally 14nm plus, just need to keep an eye on the wind direction as it can make it a very long trip back if the south wester comes up.
Otherwise, just go to Tantabiddi and hit the back of the reef, a lot more fish and easier to fish and a lot more options.

And always float an unweighted mulie
Whilst you are bottom fishing - have caught many many macks on floaters whilst at anchor with the current just keeping it in the strike zone - just make sure you set the drag really really light - let the fish run and then tighten and strike - have also caught some really good spanglies on floaters as well particularly later in the afternoon (and we used to fish exmouth in a 12 foot tinny - weather permitting of course)

Exmouth fishing
Hello People,
Hope you enjoying some good fishing.
Weather for Exmouth good friday sat, all I need is someone to go fishing with.
I know the local area a bit and a few spots and have my own gear, fishing licence and some money lol
So if you got a spot for another fisherman that would be good.
