Expedition or dogfight ??

hey guys
looking at getting a new reel but not sure what
mainly do bottom bashing with a little shallow water jigging thrown in but also want to try poppering this year up at exxy
could say 70% bottom fishing 29% jigging in water under 50m and then 1% poppers .....
i thought the exp 6500 would cover this well ... but some say the dogfight with the higher retrieve would be better...
im at a loss .... ive never used either of the reels but im sure if i need to recover more line then i will just wind faster :)
any help would be great ... thanks

The dogfight is better but

The dogfight is better but for high speed retrieve of skipping poppers, metals and gaining slack line quickly. The Expedition is probably the better reel for your needs due to the fact that you're gonna be bottom bouncing and the low gear ratio is better for fighting fish. I have 3 saltigas and 2 of them are Expeditions, I used them for jigging and poppering. I had a 6000GT but sold it within a yr coz I wasnt using it enough to justify it. You still can popper fishing with the low gear ratio reel becoz you're not winding it flat out. Its more about your rod control and how much drag can you hang on to.

Another thing is if its gonna be mainly bottom bouncing I suggest you look for another outfit for it, peferably overhead. Pain in the ass to use to feed line out.

Just use an overhead to

Just use an overhead to bottom bounce, and what you already have for light jigging to light jig. Exp for jigging in water under 50m is hardly sporting, nor maximising the full potential of the reel. Neither does bottom bashing with an expedition, good lord.

The higher gear ratio DOES make a very noticeable difference for popping. But that is coming from a 7-day, non-stop pop dedicated casting trip. It gives you a few more hours of strength to wind, and less wind knots as you wind in the slack alot faster, not allowing there to be as much.

As you seem to already be doing well down south, perhaps you should take this opportunity to fish Exmouth and change it more to 70% jigging, 29% popping, and 1% bottom bashing (throw in gamefishing somewhere there). You will indubiously have much more fun!

if you plan to 'let' (I say let, but most of the time you won't be able to help yourself *chuckle*) yourself be more involved with popping in the future, I'd lean towards the dogfight. A EXP would not be fully utlisied fishing those conditions, and would not be as suitable for popping. If not, dont blow your money, its not worth it. Find a cheaper solution.

A Z-4500 would be much more

A Z-4500 would be much more suitable for jigging in water less than 50m. I use a Stella 8000FA and I find it really good for shallow water jigging.

What KC said was right as

What KC said was right as well.....thats why our wallets are always empty. Each reel has its own purpose.

Shallow water jigging doesnt always mean lighter gear. Feral, tell them about our SHALLOW water sambo jigging session. Could have done with slightly heavier gear...lol
