No point spending big when
No point spending big when playing in the sand mate. Penn spin fisher 650-750 and a Wilson live fibre 10-12ft rod will rake in the Taylor and even a big mulla if you play it a bit

Good combo there from Crezz.
Good combo there from Crezz. Spinfisher reels are as tough as they come & you can still get them for under $100 if you don't get the new model. The Shimano Aerowave composite 6-10kg rod matches up well with a 650 Spinfisher & is nearly half the price of the Wilson. I've had that as a backup/loan out combo for a couple of years & it has landed plenty of solid fish though the Wilson Live Fibre is noticeably better & wotrh the extra if you can spring for it.

I've got a 12ft Shakespear
I've got a 12ft Shakespear and also a cheapo Berkley surf rod with a Penn Spinfisher 950 with 20lb mono and its fine. Reel is probably a bit much for your garden variety tailor so the smaller models like crezz mentioned would be fine but mine does the trick. I like big shiny stuff :D

Personally I fish braid 99%
Personally I fish braid 99% of the time. I like the extra feel, casting distance & I really like having less wind resistance when there's a strong crosswind. Some people will only fish braid on a clean beach because of it's poor abrasion resistance but I use it over reef as well without too many dramas. My advice would be to try both & see which you prefer.
