First test of SS264 1kW transducers
Well with Monday being such a hot day and the forecast being for low wind and swell conditions it was too good to waste even if it was NY eve. The decision was made on the spur of the moment to go deep, test out the new transducers and see if we could land ourselves one of these deepwater fish that we keep seeing posts of.
7.30 launch at Cockburn and hit the throttles. First thing that became evident was that we could pick up solid readings at 30 plus knots even if it was only shallow but surprisingly this performance did not seem to fall away as we held speeds at 25 knots or more all the way to the deep.
The pic below clearly shows sambos on the wrecks whilst travelling at speed on 200kHz in 111m
Still tracking clearly at 160m on 200kHz
Swapped over to 50kHz as we dropped over the edge and dropped speed to 5kts - still showing plenty of detail
Change of background colour and tuning in a full screen at 5 kts - what is that at 260m in the top right, would they be fish or a school of something ?
Still at 5 kts on 50kHz and quite clear at 404m
Overall very happy with the SS264's and the HDS depth capability surprised me, now I need to spend more time learning to drive it to get the best out of it so I can catch some of the big buggers in the deep !
cheers

Looks Good
Looks like you'll be nabbing some deepwater species soon enough. Learning how to drive your electronics is more than half the battle.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

I too am impressed
gain is 7/10 I presume, fine tuning should be able to reduce the gain output I guess, great detail tho, shouldn't have an issue finding fish

What Pair Did
What Pair did you get the SS264 N's or Wides ? if you don't mind what price did you pay ? as I am considering using a pair of SS264 n's with my Furuno 585,but the price is a bit prohibitive,

Thanks for the comments guys, I certainly am pleased with the results so far. And although we did drop on a couple of those spots, all we pulled up was green eye dog sharks. Next time !
Terry if you look here http://fishwrecked.com/forum/new-transducers there is a picture of the install. Ozzy I sent you a PM.
cheers
