im sure alot of people know what this is

very common in the sound

someone once told me it was a butterfly fish but that doesnt sound right

our of curiosity, are the bigger ones edible?  not that i would

i used to eat them as a kid, from memory they were ok, bit like a herring taste.

but most went in as crab bait.

 Butterfish are actually pretty good eating from what i've heard. They make good live/dead bait too.
