As Crasny's picture shows, old wives are nearly always found in pairs, and are commonly seen around rock walls, pylons, etc. For all the bazillions I've seen while fishing around this type of structure, I've only ever had one day, down in Albany, where they actually took a soft plastic (wasn't targeting them), and I caught both of them...so yeah, very common fish, very uncommon way of getting it, at least from my experience!

EDIT: Enoplosus armatus and I forgot to say watch the dorsal spines. Has a hurty venom.
