I think we have all known that holding a dead animal up for a photo has been on the nose of an ever increasing part of the population.

I see the problem is that all the soft c@#ks ser the photos weather it be an animal taken while hunting or a nice catch of fish and kick up a stink. Yet they will sit down to a feed of meat or fish that is farmed . Double standard. It's all in our nature to hunt or fish. I will keep posting pics. Unfortunately all those in the west coast region are unable to .

Not sure that would be the case. Who knows but maybe the lack of big dhuy pics got them thinking they are starting to decline. Personally I don't think peolpe who do the research are to interested in facebook pics. The science that was done showed a decline. Maybe the science methods were wrong but that's all they had to use and that's what they did use. People try and hide what they are doing and tell others not to post on social media. They won't support fisheries research by donating frames ect so in away us as recs haven't helped ourselves.

I heard it yesterday.I've listened to that Jessica Meeuwig speak a few times now and what a piece of of work she is just pushing her own agenda. The way she delivers her information is very manipulative to the people that aren't fully aware of this crappy situation.

 WAFIC didn't help their

Thu, 2026-02-19 16:21

WAFIC didn't help their cause by whinging about how much time they were given and going in half arsed by the looks. RECFISHWEST had the same time frames and seemed to be able to get their act together.

The interesting comment by WAFIC that nothing should change for them but ban rec fishing hasen't helped their cause.

When up in Broome we pushed fisheries hard to sort out the issue of stock depletion with threadfin salmon. It was only after the pro netter was removed we saw a huge change in the fishery. From having threadie competitions on a yearly basis and for several years seeing bugger all threadies getting caught to now being a quality fishery and able to catch a feed goes to show what management of a fishery can achieve. The local Barramundi fishing has improved markedly aswell now the local creeks aren't being raped.

As for Jessica she is a piece of work thats for sure, funny how the first thing she bought up was that camera on sand playing spot the jewie.I'd say she has copped a fair bit of shit for that. She needs to go back and listen to what she said at the time.

Listening to that, which was

Fri, 2026-02-20 08:07

Listening to that, which was covered by the experts from each sector, Science, Professional Sector and Rec Fish...Gov.

My take on the discussion..

- Mandatory reporting will be implemented for Rec fishes in 20 months time.

- Marine / Demersal recovery no go zones will be increased ten folds.

- Shorter fishing periods, catch limits to come

- Inshore Snapper and Deep drop access could see different guidelines.

Its all based on the older, larger breeding fish. Fair to say the Pro sector couldn't give two fks about Rec fishes..

I've heard from a very reliable source the whole west coast is under review.

Like you say mate wholsale changes a coming and it won't be like it used to be, might actually fuck my fishing opportunities forever.

With the Libs an absolute basket case they offer no viable alternatives, just Basil trying to gain political mileage.

Thu, 2026-02-26 19:52

The Libs support this, do you? The commercial fishing sectors called for;

•Full demersal closure of Perth Metro
•Reallocate 20t of demersal catch in the West Coast from recreational to commercial
•Nine-month demersal closure across remaining West Coast
•No rec access beyond 40m from Lancelin to the Abrolhos
•Mandatory catch reporting.
Recreational tag system for all bioregions
•Reduced rec bag limits
•Close Area 3 of the Pilbara zone to rec fishing
•new demersal licence and shore based licence
•commercial only areas in waters deeper than 40m between Lancelin and the Abrolhos islands

Fri, 2026-02-27 08:28

Nope old Basil is not doing anything to win my vote but labour never has either. I do support some form of commerical fishing to supply the australian and local market and maybe fish caught from the west coast region is only to be supplied to the local market only? it might become more expensive but at least there is access to the supply for those who want Dhu fish on the menu.

seekem that was all in the their submission , they basically wanted recs to take the hit while they gave up zip

they also had adele farina on the WAFIC board , along with melissa haslam CEO , they likly thought the ex labour polly as co author of their submission would get a green light with a labour gov ,, that backfired spectacularly on them too

I don't think the lack of photos on this site made any difference   Facebook and YouTube had plenty of evidence of people taking 4 good sized breeders to show what is out there.

 Basil is beating his chest

Fri, 2026-02-27 10:14

Basil is beating his chest like he is important, problem is he doesn't have the numbers in parliament to change the vote. Reality is most recfishers seem to accept something needs to change and only a minority are whinging. Pros or fish mongers are taking the piss out of the public with their prices on the shop floor at the moment ,so I can't see it being affordable for the general public to be buying fresh fish from them.

anyone who doubts the science

Mon, 2026-03-02 14:12

anyone who doubts the science advising dhuis are not what they need to be , think this below research paper extract over , videos now showing 2-10 fish and everyone thinks stocks are great ,, imagine how they where back when this occurred

Taken from fisheries research paper 187;
Aggregating dhufish have been found throughout the West Coast Bioregion (Table 3.5), with the Cape Naturaliste area noted by two ex-commercial fishers who once fished grounds from Cape Naturaliste to Shark Bay, as being the main aggregating area within the species range. Indeed, the largest reported aggregation was found off Cape Naturaliste by a commercial fisher in November 1966 (year uncertain), and nicknamed the ‘ghost patch’. The fish in this aggregation were densely packed and filled an area approximately 40 feet high and up to 400 feet long. It was estimated by the four retired fishermen who independently mentioned this aggregation that it contained thousands of fish. This aggregation was fished constantly by four boats until catches declined and it disappeared in February the following year.

... ..................this science is backed by 4 pros own independent reports .. thousands of dhuis in one large school imagine how the west coast region must have been back then in its natural state .. today is nothing comparable , unless you choose to dismiss this paper 187 and the 4 pros who fished it for 3 months solid until it disapeared ,,, ..

Mon, 2026-03-02 17:15

Recs got blamed for the decline of pinks in shark bay region but the one thing that stood out to me was the pro boat parked in the middle of the aggregation filling a large box on deck that would have taken 20 to 30 times more than the few rec boats. fishing the same spot on a daily occurance. Go figure ...
