fishing closed season

My young bloke is keen to try out some fresh water fishing for trout or redfin. Anyone know if the section of Serprntine river still open this time of year is any good for a days fishing. Any other suggestions would also help. New to this type of fishing and just need a bit of a heads up.
Thanks in advance.

Surely you got this with your freshwater license, Serpentine is listed under the open all year section.

Sorry, must have worded it wrong. I know it is one of the areas open this time of year, just wanted to know if it is any good at the moment. Thought someone might have caught something there recently.

You would have more luck in the Murray river just past Dwellingup in the lane poole reserve.
