Fishing Highlights of '07

Well another year has ended... what have been the highlights for you? Has it been a good year or poor or average and why?

Been a good year for myself, landed my biggest Threadfin Salmon at 112cm and my biggest Black Jewfish at 114cm. Also equaled my PB Mangrove Jack at 50cm.

Also landed my first Red off Dampier, only a tiddler but good to get off the mark.

Probably my most memorable experience was my first barra on lure, which was land based too so it was pretty special.

My biggest barra for the year was 94cm, although not caught this current season it was an 06/07 fish and my biggest for the year.

Getting smoked by big Bluebone was an unreel experience, unfortunately I didn't manage to land any but it won't be something I will forget too soon. Thanks Brad.

Also landed my first fish on SP in '07 and I'm sure I've probably caught over 15 species so far and still counting.

Well that kinda sums it up I'm sure there's probably some other stuff I've forgotten but these are the bits that stand out the most, enjoy the pics.

definately had fun on those bluebone too mate, i was lucky to land a few crackers which will go down in the memory bank forever.  Also getting into the SP's has been great fun but most of all those 2 barra I got at night on popper has to be the highlight for me.  Hopefully many more great fish and trips to come.
My 8th (our 12th) barra for the trip caught on a popper at night

My NEW PB MONSTER BLUEBONE!!!!
one of the cracker bluebone we got, my PB 15.5 LB in 1.5m of water

And perhaps some of the reds we got in winter off dampier

Love your work Jay, don't think I had anywhere near as impressive captures in 07. Hopefully I can turn that around this year.

Ups and Down

Sun, 2008-01-06 09:13

On a personal note, their have been some pretty big downs and a few ups.

From a fishing point of view - also the same. The weather down here hasn't been the best, and a few probs with the boat (a lot to do with frustrating results from the desire for good comprehensive service).

I'm hopping for a more productivity in all areas for 2008.

And Adam says Jay you've posted some great catch pics - hard to beat you guys north of the 26. :)

Hi Ya, Highlights for me

Sun, 2008-01-06 13:55

Hi Ya,

Highlights for me were the salmon (13 all up) I got at Hamelin Bay in May.  That was made sweeter by having my nephew along as well.  We both had a great time.  Also the black bream at Kalbarri in October.  Had never specifically targeted bream before then so to open my account with a 33 or 34cm fish (can't remember which it was) was quite exciting made even better by having my youngest brother along and beating him to a fish.

Lowlights would be having so many fishing charters cancelled due to bad weather.  One day I will get out there.  So far the count is 5 out of 6 cancelled (not all last year) one of which was cancelled by the skipper an hour off shore.

Cheers.

That is crappy luck

Sun, 2008-01-06 14:15

Boy you haven't had much luck there Ody. One of my biggest fishing highlights was joining Fishwrecked and reading so much interesting stuff. Fishing the Blue Holes at Kalbarri was probably the angling highlight. Hopefully 2008 will be a lot more active fishing wise. Already booked to stay at Smith's Beach in late March, hopefully (after reading of Ody's luck) going on a few charters including one to the Abrolhos) over the next few months, heading to Broome in June and then backl to Kalbarri later in the year.
Love to get up your way Brad and Jay, your fishing exploits have me drooling.

Great stuff Jay!

Top class captures for sure.

I think I might have to do a highlights package myself later on. Seen some good fish come over the side last year however the number of times the boat got out was abyssmal (maybe 20 if we were lucky). Need to get her wet a few more times this year.

Cheers

Hi Ya, Certainly haven't

Mon, 2008-01-07 11:44

Hi Ya,

Certainly haven't lost interest.  Still waiting with eager anticipation to go out fishing.  It will happen one day.

Ohh, you mean 'Bank Interest.'  That entity from yesteryear that Banks used to give you for the privellage of using your maoney to earn large profits by lending it to other people and making them pay even higher interest?  No, don't miss out an any of that either.  The Bank don't pay any unless you've got something like 100K in your account.  If I had that much money sitting around, I'd buy me own boat LOL.

Cheers.
