Fishing Saturday 28th

Well after heading out to sand a job this morning and watching all the boats heading up I felt a little down I wasn't going early. but I guess we missed the rush. We got to the ramp at around 9:00 and were on the first spot for 10:00.  Conditions were looking good and after sounding around there were fish and still in good numbers. After setting up our drift I gave the nod for all to drop and it was a few seconds and Jesse was on, not big but a dhuie. Then James, then Jody. yep the fish were still biting and although not the size of last week's fish, still good fun.

Things slowed down after a short time so we moved on. We fished 7 patches and all had some good numbers of fish on them. James the new guy was showing the hardened fishos how its done.  He had only caught one dhuie before and not big so he was having a good time. He did get two around the 9kg which one was kept for dinner. We did recapture a dhuie from the 7/5/11.  780mm. It was in very good condition was released to fight another day.  Thats three we have recaught.

Well the day was another great trip and we were back in the marina at 3:00. Days catch 20 dhuies, two keepers, tagged 16 and two swam from my hands before I got the tag in ,+ 2x baldies kept.  Also dropped half dozen fish. I think that is around 70-80 tags in all.  good looking forward to them turning up in the future.

Sun, 2011-05-29 07:52

Not at all Russ all tags are logged in a book at the time they are put in.Length of fish ,sex ,condition,,and release method. then at home loged into the computer  then loaded to  west-tag I don't do a lot of fishing but im happy with that .And catching plenty of fish is good isn't it as maybe these fish are not as endangered as we all think .

Well done again mate, looks like a great day

Sat, 2011-05-28 19:53

Went out today as deckie on deonvdw's boat, Had a great time 4 of us fishing, plenty of fish landed - tuna, couple of dhuies 6 size baldies, stonker of a blacksrse, good sized pinky plus a heap of undersized fish successfully released.
Did you guys use bait at all? I persisted most of the day with jigs and plastics catching sfa compared to the baited lines in the water. Had to resort to bait in the end to get my fair share of the fun :P

venting

the venting has been very successful with research and the fish seem to suffer no effects and release alot easier. you just have to know how to do it properly

     Hi Fellas, Some awesome

Sat, 2011-05-28 20:05

     Hi Fellas,

Some awesome fish there and IMO tagging does a huge amount of good in monitoring fish stocks and movements. HOWEVER, one problem with it back in the UK was    that environmental groups ( anti angling groups) were putting huge effort into finding dead fish with tags in them and then highlighting the fact that these fish had been caught and then died.

This is not a dig at people who catch a lot of fish and tag and release,

just an alternative view on how even the best practice can be hijacked to do more harm than good.

  Cheers,

  Nick.

How would you find dead fish

Sat, 2011-05-28 20:28

How would you find dead fish with tags in them, in the ocean? Not even someone hopeful is that lucky, or has that much time.

Good fishing

Good fishing Paul and crew. Good to see you putting tags in bigger fish as well, will give more of a big picture view than just tagging little tackers.

Another awesome day Paul, as some have stated, many would be happy to catch 20 a year, neverlone 20 a day!  Congrats mate and great stuff with the recaptures.

Will get some video of the tagging process and put it up ,just been a little to frantic out there at the moment.Lets hope some fish start turning up in different spots around Two Rocks. I think a lot off people see dhuies bloated with it eyes bulging and picture all fish in this condition but that is so wrong .these fish are in great condition when finding the surface .and are returnd within the minute to the water .Two fish never even got in the boat hook removed in the water a bolted out of my hands and gone .this is in 43m of water .

i've been on Paul's boat with Jesse and i got to witness first hand just how much care they take with handling thier catch, only one fish didn't swim off after venting and the release weight but they day we went out they all looked very healthy and swam away strongly never resurfacing> Buxcey i would be very suprised to see a fish not return to the bottom with the way Paul does it and if venting is going to kill then then so is a hook thats been in multiple fishes mouths and handled by us then with bait or a SP on it.
