Flies

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the amount of flies around at the moment now that the weather has started to warm up?

Wondering what people do around at home to control them?

I've got about 6 of the fly catches up which are filling up every 3 or 4 days and there are still millions hanging around.

Anyone else have any other ideas? Any slow release scent solutions that seem to keep them away?

Bodie

those fly attracters/catchers you are talking about work great.

maybe just maybe

maybe just maybe , if the Barnett government hadn't knocked the dung beetle program on the head we wouldn't be having the fly problem to the extent we have

Dungies.

We used to get the dungies come around January back in Busso and it was amazing how much the flies dropped away then, so I've got no doubt they work.

 As Dd pointed out

Thu, 2014-10-16 18:43

As Dd pointed out attractants do just that lol .. chicken and horsey people use crushed garlic around the place , it works though you may have to redecorate to a more italian theme . Fans blowing keep them away eg : if your sitting outside having a barbie.

Otherwise there’s these options the PETA mob sell this first one

or you could try this idea , maybe invite a few mates over for a hunt whilst the ban is on .

When we have summer bbqs I

Thu, 2014-10-16 18:47

When we have summer bbqs I just invite the Indian neighbour over and make him stand in the corner of the yard, keeps the flys off everyone else......
Heard about them bag of water and tin foil trick?
Fly traps attract flys, hmmmmmmm
But seriously, I bought some shooaways last summer and they work a treat on the table keepin flys off the food, take em campinmg and have one on the filleting table whilst prepping my catch etc. But the best thing I ever did was hang a ceiling fan up in my alfresco. Wont find a fly under that when its on

Tried and true method

The best way to stop flies walking over your face while working is to cut a hole in the back of your dacks.

I use a 2 litre drink plastic

Fri, 2014-10-17 14:01

I use a 2 litre drink plastic bottle (coke etc). Cut the spout off where the bottle shape start. Invert that so that the opening forms a funnel and shove that back into the other half off the "cut" bottle. Fill with some water about a third to half full.  Add a piece off offcut meat, or if you realy want a stink a mulie cube. Place this away from the house in the garden and you have a great cheap flytrap. They fly in, get trapped by the funnel shape, fall in the water and drown. After a week or so you have the juck job of emptying it. Pongs a bit so I dig a hole near a good plant and poor the mixture of rotten stuff and dead flies in it, and start again.

Seem to drag the flies away from the house and kills by the 1000's.
