Well what a coincidence, I
Well what a coincidence, I was just watching that video and my 2016 wildtrack alarm went off for the second time tonight. First time I went out and found a decent size moth flying around and gave it a whack with some clothing, saw it wedged between the windscreen and dash, upside down and motionless, thought, I'll get it out tomorrow, then while watching this video, the alarm on the laptop video blurred out the real alarm in the ranger outside. Wife comes in, I go out, moth has recovered and started flying around again, so put alarm in perimeter mode til tomorrow
Other than a moth to clean out it's a great vehicle I could have bought any ute, drove some others, like this the best, more expensive, but there's a lot of extras included, Had a px1 before. Ford dealer is incompetent, like all dealer service departments and some of the electronic stuff can be annoying, but some is fantastic and most you can turn on or off to suit your needs
I reckon the 470nm is crap though, also have a Jeep 05 3l 510nm, incredible difference
Cheers

Shit itself on sunday
Got a late 2015 ranger. Biggest mistake of my life.
On sunday in town and started it and it was running like a hairy goat. Drove about 300m and it cut out. Turned it of,took the key out and opened the door and started it again and was OK after that. The shit never ends.

Haha! Crano, gota admit, I'm looking at buying another 4Wd, always had Hilux's but they are so expensive now, and their towing rating is bullshit. Thought I'd test the forum response because I do think the Ford Rangers are nice on the eye but I've actually never heard any true positives about them.

Don't read too much into
Don't read too much into towing capacity... In real life situations the figure is a lot different to the quoted rating.

Mate has one and really isn't
Mate has one and really isn't happy either. Has had quite a few electrical issues and the trim is really cheap and all the silver has rubbed off. Looks really ratty for a less than 2 year old car.

The 2017 Colorado seems to
The 2017 Colorado seems to be a beauty, not any words about oil consumption like the older models . And the 7yr warranty !!! Also the Isuzu also has the goods without the Toyo price tag. Its seems the Ranger has a few onging issues.

So Ranger is the new Jeep?
hadn't actually heard of any catching fire, though, unlike Jeeps. I though bugs were sorted on the "new" Rangers--the first model out in Australia was just rubbish, IMO, looking at their performance on minesites--failure rate was really high, doing the same work for Rio Tinto as Hiluxes had been, they were cracking chassis' and failing ECM's like flies, among other faults. Still don't think you can go past a Hilux, nowadays--all the other major competitors vehicles in the same class have known issues.

Very Happy with mine
Ive had mine for 3 years ,its a wildtrak manual . Ive got 65k on the clock and most of that is towing ,as a 4x4 its very good .When I bought mine I put a second battery in and have had to use it only once ,caravan drained my main battery. Its excellent on juice and has heaps of power. My boat was 3 tonnes and the van is 3.5 tonnes . It sits on 100klm per hour in cruise control towing . I know of a recall on them at the moment but its for long grass being able to get caught up in the exhaust area and it doesnt apply to my model.
There are two types of people ,do'ers and watchers
Right now the do'ers are the doing it
And the watchers are watching us do it

Hmmmm I dont have first hand
Hmmmm I dont have first hand experience but..... my wifes work has had one burn to the ground out in the field. The only specifics I know is that the techs managed to grab the epirb and send a couple of communications so they could be found and then emptied 2 fire extingushers trying to get it out but lost all their tools and special gas related gear (it didnt sound cheap).
I've got an old 3l N/A hilux that still does what I need it to do, so no new ute for me any time soon.

ranger PX11
My 2016 is a year old now ....lovin' it.
Does the beaches east of Albany as good as my old 4.8 petrol patrol.
I got the mechanic at Challenger Ford to dis-able the beeps when you put the key in...Also limited the door open beeps to 5 ..at least better than continuous.
Tows my 19' boat effortlessly .. more comfortable than similar age Colorado and feels a lot more solid

Great Walls like the Steed only get an ANCAP rating of 2 stars. Steer well clear of those death traps

Yep owning my 2007 Hliux has been so boring.... All i do is drive and drive and drive it, anywhere.....
Well until yesterday and the father inlaw was in the car and said "how's she going" I said "hasn't missed a beat".....
Went down got a feed of abs and have somehow dumped all the power steering fluid ( split hose perhaps ) on the way home so i'm off to do some trouble shooting....
Will buy another Hilux forsure....

Recall
Didn't they just recall 59,000 rangers from 2016/17 for catching fire?

Family friend had one
He went back to his 4.3 Patrol with 4000 kms on it after a few months.
Also heard some bad stories about bad diesel v injectors and a few k to repair (althought to be fair this is a risk with most common rail diesels)
Wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole.

Go the Tuna!
Fortuner that is, got the base model a couple of years ago and could not be happier. Cant imagine needing any more bells and whistles than a reversing camera to hook up the boat on the go.

Son in laws pile of shite
He has a nice looking Ford Ranger a couple of years old from new. Nothing but dramas, gear box changed, electrical probs with the latest going into limp mode for no reason. The car dealership have been ok to start with then became no help at all until Ford Australia stepped in to take up the issue. They have the car back now after it being off the road for 3 weeks and they have had enough. worst mistake of their lives they say, way too much stress.

Unfortunately these issues,
Unfortunately these issues, even the significant ones!, are not limited to a single manufacturer. You can google search ANY of the the leading brands and will find horror stories on all of them. The sad part is that there is no real significant back up for the poor man/woman who forks out their hard earned. IMO it's a bloody disgrace what car manufacturers are allowed to get away with. I can understand a vehicle having a fault but at some point enough should be enough. If it was any other product you would return it for a refund, instead the customer has to deal with not having a vehicle/lost income/stress for something that they bought NEW, most likely to avoid having said issues.
Sorry to rant, but it seems to be a worrying trend that you pay top dollar for a 'quality product' only to get the shaft when it goes pear shaped. And no I don't own a Ranger, I own a Colorado and to be honest I don't know if buying 'new' even with warranties buys piece of mind. It's a case of cross your fingers and hope you don't get a lemon.

And the old 4.2 patrol just keeps on plugging away
The new ones are so nice to drive, all the creature comforts, and they are ok for most people, but the horror stories keep coming. So my old TD42 patrol trayback with extended chassis has 397,000 on the clock. Has the loud tick that some of them get, but it doesn't affect performance, oil consumption or anything else. Put 2 tonne plus of loaded boat behind, and over a tonne on the tray, and belt it up to Ningaloo and back, 100 km/hr all the way on the bitumen. For creature comforts, I have upgraded to a double-DIN sized entertainment unit, and (gasp) Cruise Control. Bloody luxury.
Anyway, back to this century. My son was considering a new Ranger last year, steered him away from it.He bought the new Hilux instead, happy with it.
