Freshwater tips

Hi guys.
im taking the family camping down at potters gorge, Wellington dam in a couple of weeks. I was hoping to take the kids fishing for some trout or Redfin, but don't really have any freshwater gear. Just wondering if I could get some recommendations on rod weight and line that would be appropriate? Also any tips on lures, or bait/hook size would be awesome! I've only ever really flyfished in freshwater, so this is new to me, but think would be a great way to get the kids enthused!
any advice greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Redfin
Any grub tail soft plastics on a jig head will work for Redfin, if fact nearly every lure style can work.
First and last light they are the most active as they heard baitfish into the shallows.
During the day, a worm/prawn under a float can still pick up fish.
There are trout in there too so they can also show up.
A longish light rod over 7 foot will help with cast light weights. 1-3/2-4kg is plenty.

Reddys
I use a 7ft light spin rod lure casting weight 1 - 7g, 2500 reel with 6lb braid as the primary redfin, bream and whiting outfit.
