Furuno 627 with a shoot through transducer

Hi to all the furuno guru's out there

I am wondering if anyone is using a 627 with a shoot through tranny?

I have read the recomended tranny's list for the 627 and no shoot through's are mentioned that will support the bottom descrimination function.

I dont really need this feature but I would like to get the best picture possible for this sounder and transome mount is not an option.

So what trannys are people running with this sounder? Do I need to bite the bullet and go to a through hull tranny?

Thanks for your help

JOEL

Is there much difference

 Hey JohnF,

Is there much difference in performance between a B744 and the more standardish low profile B260 through hull transducer.

I am a little concerned with the size of the B744 on a 19ft hull.

Thanks

The comparable low profile

The comparable low profile tranny is an airmar B60, same elements as the P66 transom mount and B744 thru hull. The y are all 600W with a 12 degree 200 kHz element that is perfect for 40-60m duie fishing. The 50khz is a bit wide at 45 degrees but will punch pretty deep if you use high TVG.

The B60 is easy to fit, a single 3 inch hole I think, and with good conditions will give identical results to the B744. However, depending on the hull, you will get bubbles along the face especially as it gets rougher, resulting in the reading breaking up. You wont get that with the B744.

The easiest 1 kW flush mount is probably the B164. Not quite as good as the SS264 pair but it only needs 1 4 inch hole. The B164 is not as good as the B60 in my opinion in under 50m as the 200 kHz beam is too narrow, but better in deeper water.

If it was me with a 19 ft boat.....B744.
