Furuno combo.

 Hi,

I know it's been done to death and I have been looking at all the old posts with the search function but I was wondering if anyone is using the furuno GP1870F combo. I'm looking for a new combo and I'm limited on space otherwise it would be two seperate units. I have measured the available space and I think that I can fit the HDS10 combo. I've used Lowrance combos in the past and would like to try something new. Everyone says that the Furuno sounders are good as fish finders and the Lowrance plotters are better than Furuno for charts and the navigation side of things. As the fish finder is the thing that will find the fish, I wanted to try the Furuno combo as the 1870F is compatable with a 1kW or 600w transducer and I want to start fishing in the 200m+. Is there anyone using this unit and are they happy with it?

Thanks,

Ken

The one with on screen menus - saw one in action in Shark Bay - NB with the upgraded transducer installed - both the GPS and sounder were excellent with little by way of compromise evident - I have always been anti combined units but this one (a 1750 model I seem to recall) completely changed my mind

We bought a Furuno 1870F about 2 months ago. I don't find that either the GPS of fish finder is comspromised in the combo.

I have owned 2 Lowrances in the past, and I don't know why everyone has a sook about the maps on the Furunos.

Go for it I say you wont be let down by the unit.

Put a 1870f into the boat as a back up. Works great.
Maps are pretty good, sounder works fine but only had it shallow so far. Have a 585 as well and where the 585 showed snapper in the sound as red blobs they showed as nice arches on the 1870.

Only thing is it takes a bit to get used to the menu controls but they are pretty easy once you use it a few times.
