There are two advertise on Ebay without transducers and as I have never heard of these models I seeking info on how good they are rated as and can you buy transducers for these models, whiuch I believe are quite old. They arwe at a very attractive price and have a good size screen for old farts like me. Any and all info or directions on where to look up non biased reports on them would be appreciated

firstly i would be going onto the furuno site or ringing a supplier to find out if you can get the correct transducer. as far as non biased reports, this is the place to get them

thanks to all

many thanks to all who answered my request for info on the sounders, i now have one other question that i would like your input on, i know that 50k is better for deep water (greater than 200 metres i think) and 200k is ok for 0 - 200 but what difference does the watts make to the picture on the screen. Please guys keep it to blunt non tech english i'm no technocratic fisherman.

again thanks to all who answered my previous question about this sounder, and as an ending question what do you think would be a fair price to pay for a second hand 581 or 582

We have a FCV-581 on our boat

We have a FCV-581 on our boat that we bought in 1997. Still works great, can easily find reef and schools of demersals up to 120m(the deepest i have used it too). We have only ever run it with a Airmar p66 transducer which i believe is the same as the ones that can be used on the newer FCV-620 and FCV-585(but only 500w) i think they are a 50/200khz but i only ever have it on 200khz when chasing demersals under 60m deep. Always use the bottom lock function. A large unit but find it just as good as seeing a newer FCV-585 work in depths under 60m. Over that depth the 1kw tranny on the 585 was way better at reading the bottom. Alot of blokes swear by the 585 with 1kw tranny and i know when our old 581 packs it in i will buy one too, but if its what you can afford for now they are great units. We paid $1000 for ours in 1997. I guess one now shouldnt be more than half of that. Buz.
