FW Almost Darwin Awards

Hi All

After hearing about the idiot in broome trying to have a swim with one of Butler's crocs I thought wouldnt it be a good laugh to post our almost Darwin award moments.

Mine certainly happened a long time back paddling out a live bait in a bucket to a channel in South Africa for my father. It was in a old canadian canoe and dad was using a Penn overhead. As you can guess the thing got a Birds nest at the wrong time and I got caught midthigh by the hook. It skipped along the skin and finally hooked about an inch below the then unused family jewels.

Needless to say I was paddling madly backward by that stage, with a mullet still attached to the hook slapping against my legs. Took some minor surgery to remove the hook but alls well!!!

Hope there is some other almost disaster stories good for a laugh.

Neels

What was the idiot thinking trying to ride a 5m croc.....??? I dont care how smashed he was or who he was trying to impress, that is just stupid....

And if he was to be killed would they have had to put the croc down?

1992

Tue, 2010-07-13 08:27

fisherman1992's effort last week was a good one, then to back it up with photos of his "recent" catch that were the same as his year-old avatar was the icing.

we took 2 boats to go diving earlier this year, and the pressure was on to be the first boat to "the cray lump". luckily mine was fastest, and we beat the other boys by a good 5 mins, plenyty of time to suit up and get in and get the crays before the other boys on the other boat. we werent even concerned by the big white inflatable boat 150m to our starboard, stealing our crays.

we were kitted up and just about to roll over the side when the other boys turned up, and went over to say gday to the big white inflatable boat, when they started waving at us with both arms.....

turns out the white inflatable was actually a huge dead whale, with a few large bite marks, and some large shadows lurking below. in our haste to beat the others, we didnt even give it a second glance, and were more interested in beatin the other boys to the crays.

if they had've showed up a minute later, i reckon i'm not sure i'd be writing this now.

A certain competitor in our comp last week got tossed out of his dinghy whilst returning to the boat to pick up the rest of his crew only to see the tub motor straight past all the other boats into the dark of night with a full tank of fuel. Next morning by some miracle the dinghy had stopped 20 mile north of town right in the middle of the sailfish grounds

Mine would have to be when i went to the Monties with PilbaraBrad and Fozz, caught a coral trout, took the lure out, threw it back overboard whilst i delt with the trout and brad turns around and said "oh i was going to get a photo with the lure still in its mouth"

"No Worries" i said, reeled in the lure, grabbed it by the middle and took a massive swing to stick it backs in its mouth.

Anyway the trout kicked and the middle treble went straight through the meaty part at the base of my thumb whilst the other treble lodged in the trouts mouth.

Fozz jumped on the trout and i just sucked it up and reefed it back the way it came, Thank god for Brads golden rule.... always Crushed Barbs

Silly Silly boy hahahah
