Getting a feed of mussels
Submitted by lak82 on Sat, 2023-01-07 13:42
Hi all,
wanting to take the fam out on the boat and grab a feed of mussels. Was thinking between Blackwall reach up to the Freo bridge. What is everyone's thoughts on getting mussels out these areas? And any tips to get a few

Don't know if it's a good
Don't know if it's a good idea these days. With past problems in the river they might be a bit suss.

Use to do well snorkling off
Use to do well snorkling off the rocks along the bottom of blackies...but then some kind decided to strip every mussel no matter the size.
Last check it was well dead.
The mooring ropes hold good size, pending last clean and inspection.

Antifouling
If you look at the river health reports, that area has high levels of antifouling from the ships within the harbor.

Currently maybe not
At the moment there are signed up in Mosman Bay, at the little jetties where people fish, advising not to eat shellfish or crab guts. Might just be precautionary in case of algal blooms, as those signs have been there for a while. Not far from Blackwall reach really. Worth a call to Fisheries or Swan River trust maybe?
