Getting this wired in
Hit the water very early this morning hoping to again tangle with some snapper before the season closes. Anchored up at 0430 in the same general area I found fish the other day. Lost the first fish when it ran around the anchor rope and broke me off (more of that later). Another good run saw me bettering my WA pb snapper with the one pictured going exactly 7kg. Got another shortly thereafter so had bagged out by 0630.
Pulling the anchor was interesting, seems the lost fish had attracted the attention of a shark and as the winch spooled back in the rope only one of the three ply rope remained ......hmmmm, it's a bloody heavy anchor that I am using as a spare almost two sizes larger than usual. After several squashed fingers I managed to get the chain aboard, cut the rope and fed the chain to the winch and successfully received 20 metres of chain and the anchor.
Got a splicing job to do during the upcoming wet weather

Braid
Have seen this before where a hooked fish runs around the anchor rope and the braid has cut clean through the nylon rope with ease , at least you got yours back !!
The next time i see that jig will be in the mouth of something big !!

Not from the Sound
Fishing just inside the five fathom bank about half way along the island in 18 metres of water ........it's the early start, careful anchoring to hang back toward structure whilst not actually being over it and then burleying with chopped mulies and having a burley pot hanging mid current putting heaps of scent out. I freeline scalies on a flight of 5/0 with the barest minimum of weight so they drift down slowly. You cannot miss the bites as they just grab and run .....bloody great fun

One nice one this morninm
Had a second that got taken by a big big bronzie....then the rays and PJs came on the chew and that was the end of it. Not complaining as was very confused sea this morning with a strong easterly, SW swell around 2 metres and the remnants of a southerly wind chop . Good for testing your balance that is for sure
