GMD 7.5m build

Start of the 7.5m Global Marine air rider build. Complete video in YouTube as build progresses. Not building them for a living so it is not a buisness f*%$ that just a personal build over the next 3 months. Will cover everything from trailer/boat build to complete fit out. Will do most of it myself with help from time to time. Should be working on it most days. Couple delays atm... waiting on Fronius to arrive and some 100x100x6 shs oh also axles from the East coast... should be in Perth tomorrow hopefully. I plan to have all the frames on the jig tomorrow and the catch tank drain lines run with a few stringers in along with the cable duct then a big shed clean.

Picked up the flat bar bender

Sun, 2021-08-01 21:06

Picked up the flat bar bender today off gumtree, so frame 6,7&9 can come back out so I can fab the 40x6 FB stiffness. Welder will be here Wednesday so I have started to fit some stringers as well. Will also start bending up fuel tank, catch tank battery box and cab on Tuesday. Hopefully trailer will be out of the workshop by weekend as well. Will just edit original post to add pics. Also still waiting for the video dude to arrive, seems to have gone mia

I owned one previously a 7.8m and that is an amazing vessel. I have repaired/built a few other designs and honestly very few vessels compare to the structural standard of the AirRider that met my requirements. Yes it takes a bit more time to build but the results far outweigh that. I guess it comes down to what you want to get out of the build.

 Nice mate I recently bought

Fri, 2021-08-13 16:12

Nice mate I recently bought a Cebora Evo 350 for general welding and it's a cranking unit. But have a stand alone WIA 500i for all my ali work, puts out beautiful clean welds and at around 4k to the 13k I looked at for a Kempi has pretty well paid itself off. But for a boat build like yours a pulse is the way to go. Hopefully you don't need a computer engineering degree to set it up like the Kempi.

 Seems pretty

Fri, 2021-08-13 17:24

Seems pretty straightforward, ran through a few settings today with Wade @ Burnback. Setup the double pulse so less heat input when welding side sheets and the likes. There are lots of settings I'll never need to use that would come in handy for a fab shop. A 500 machine would be good but way to big for my needs. Another machine to look at is Everlasting I would have gotten one except the wait time was crazy so I ended up with an AC/DC Esab Tig. Gotta love the Binzel handpiece with amp control on it. Pretty much set and forget until i change material thickness and then it's just a quick dial turn on handpiece.

Saw the Kempi/Fronius display units today. Pretty much gave up just trying to turn them on

Fronius is similar set and forget pretty much also, as long as you have the correct handpiece for it.

I have 2 mates with Fronius, one has a different handpiece on it, real pain in the ass...
