might need to narrow it down

Sun, 2014-11-02 15:56

might need to narrow it down as there are other related factors

1/ Is it not that its on the water, but that the outboard is running?

2/ Call at the top of the ramp, then when launched straight away and see if it is that simple?

3/ do you still get crackle when turning the squelch all the way down?

Your transmission should be better not worse over water

Volume up Squelch down Check

Volume up
Squelch down

Check you antenna connections and get someone to put a SWR bridge on it. Transmitting into a faulty antenna can toast your radio.

Check battery voltage

I know it might sound a bit silly but check that you are getting a full 12 volts to your radio and the voltage is not being dragged down by some other device on the same circuit.

Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like the radio works when the motor is not running and doesn't work when running ? or are you running it at your house when testing ?Elect eng interference poss problem.

receiver unit

Mon, 2014-11-03 13:10

mate does your unit still work now when back on land if not the receiver unit, or speaker has gone , to check this you should turn down squelch and the unit should be noisy, otherwise what model do you have and can you program mute on , your antennae must be okay if sea rescue hears you but your not receiving signals , also is there TX or RX showing on the screen when not in use
