Gonna Ask-Mackies

Mackies, want one Metro, i dont get alot of time to get out, when they are around its my busy time of year. Asking for locations to troll guys, I know its a lot to ask someone whos put in the time and effort to find the fish, I ve only managed about 7 hrs of trolling in 4 years with a few hookups a big miss and some small tuna.

I would love to get out and know where im heading, thing is Im a single dad, work during the week and have my daughter every weekend exept one Sunday every two weeks, of course all the gods, wind, etc have to line up for me to get a good crack at it on the one day I can if i manage to get out.

I have a 5.5 Fiberglass cuddy, 90litres fuel so depending how much trolling not a huge range, I launch from Woodies.

Much appreaciated

Brad

West End Rotto...

....always worth a crack, the very limited amount of trolling I've done there has resulted in no macks but have picked up SBT's, a yellowtail king, and an estimated 8kg dolphinfish lost at the net (ask hlokk about that one).

Only metro Mack we've got was on the back edge of the FFB behind Garden Island...15-20m depth range should have you in with a chance. And using a witch doctor type teaser won't hurt!

Out from Freo to the back of the 5FB

Tue, 2016-02-16 07:54

No need to go further.  The mackies and tuna are all in close at the mo.

A mate of mine did 40nm around the back of Rotto last Thursday to then find the mackies inside the heads of Freo.

Look for birds, bait and follow depth contours and you should find them.

they are a pelagic- always

Tue, 2016-02-16 08:30

they are a pelagic- always moving around, they are often in very shallow water - we have picked them up at 3 mile reef off scarborough but most we have picked up are in and around the chicken run - back of cathedral rocks west end - watch the swells - can get pretty hairy when the swells running. I always try and run lures at different depths and a skirt on the surface..

Ouch. cockburn rocko end of sound.2 days ago they where free jumping under coat hanger. While we where diving for occy. Had lures no rods( dumb ass). Matter of right time right place. Late arvo or early morn way to go. Good luck

That makes sense, 1 caught

Wed, 2016-02-17 10:48

That makes sense, 1 caught landbased at garden island 2 days ago also. I wonder if the huge salmon season had any affect on the scalie stocks in the sound
