I just wanted to say what a breath of fresh air it was at the Hillarys boat ramp this afternoon.
I went to launch my boat this afternoon (for the first time at hillarys) and a nice guy kindly came across to tell me that i was in the wrong lane to launch. Even though the lane did say launch and retrieve i was told that at that time of the day when its a bit busy people will only use it to retrieve. Just thought it was nice of someone to explain that to me rather than have some guy bite my ear off...which i seen before at boat ramps for people not doing whats expected.
As a nice bonus i also caught a load of fish :) Happy days!

when people do things like that
when people extend that bit of kindness to you with the advice instead of wanting to yell and get into a bit of biffo it renews your faith in there being some good people left on the planet

There is still a few decent
There is still a few decent fellas out there.
When we where at Jurien Bay a couple of weeks ago an old guy in a grey westerberg launched his boat beside us by him self. He left the ramp while we where still messing around and getting ready ( the ramp wasnt busy and there was no one else there). The old fella got about 100m from the ramp then turned around and came back just to tell us that there was heaps of red throat around at the moment and that they are classed as your 2 fish limit and that alot peope didnt know and where getting fined for this. we already knew this but we thanked him and he went on his way.
I think it was really good of him to go out of his way to come back and tell us that rather than just whinging about people doing the wrong thing.

Hey Jayce, can you elaborate on the Red Throat limit please. Are you saying they are classed as a Demersal down here?Just want to clarify. All good just checked the rec guide and they are part of the demersal bag limit. That's a good heads up mate.

I did the same thing
I did the same thing yesterday - launched later than ususal and picked the first free lane (out of habit)
There were some guys that had their boat held mid-way back on the jetty, so it looked like they'd just launched and were waiting for the driver to return, giving room for someone else to launch.
I backed in and was about to launch, but once I was closer to them it looked like a different story.
So I asked them if they were retrieving and got a yes reply.
By that time their trailer had arrived and was ready to back in, so I just hooked the chain back up an swapped lanes rather than keep them waiting while I parked etc.
Was a little frustrating, but no biggie.
Luckily there was still a free launch only lane, so there was very little time lost for both parties.

Thats an interesting one.
So when the ramp is busy at Hillarys , you cant use the retrieve/launch lane to launch ?
Can anybody further explain this one !

You can but...
The way I understand it, you can use the launch/retrieve lanes to launch any time of day, but when there is a queue of people waiting to retrieve (eg just after seabreeze comes in) it is more polite to use the launch only lane for launching.
