Gps/sounder combos

 Hi Guys,

Just got my hands on a 17ft fibreglass boat with an old fishfinder on it and we are looking at GPS Sounder combos in the lower price ranges.  The boat will be mostly used for fishing and mainly between 6-50ish metres though we would love to take a crack at the fads and out the back of Rotto.  Any info on brands to look at and to stay away from would be greatly appreciated as the amount of stuff out there is daunting.  I have seen a couple Simrads in use but otherwise haven't had much to do with them.

Thanks in Advance,

Daniel

mate - it all goes on your price point / budget....you really do get what you pay for....however anything/everything nowadays is awesome compared to only a few years ago.

if you believe the hype Furuno are the best sounders (personally haven't used one, but the comments on here are always pretty good and I have no reason to doubt the guys that say they are the best).

The GPS side of it also goes hand in hand with whatever map-card you go for - I have a navionics platinum card and I love it.

I've only ever used Lowrance units until recently and they have always more than done me for what I need (and still seem to be pretty well priced).

I now use a SIMRAD NSS9 Evo2 and I couldn't be more impressed.

Diff strokes for diff folks mate - there will always be knockers....I say buy what you'll actually use and what you can afford.....a lot of people appear to buy the best because they want the best but then never actually use all the features anyway.

As ChrisG said buy what you can afford. I have the Simrad NSS9 also and they are an awsome unit. So would the lowrance HDS touch units. Garmin are also doing some great combo units worth looking at.

At the cheaper end of the scale have a look at the Lowrance Elite units. You can pick up an Elite 7 for under $1k with card and transducer.

Otherwise keep an eye out in the for sale section. I just sold my HDS 8 as I no longer needed it for under $1k with card and transducer. Alot of guys are always upgrading and you can find the odd bargain out there.

Cheers
