Went out this afternoon looking for the Salmon in the Sound.
Didn't have far to go-just out the front:
Even came back and picked up the son-went back out.
Unfortunatly this one would not release:

I was one of about 25 boats playing with a big school tracking north in the middle of the sound.
my goal of the day was to pick one up on my 3 foot, 2kg Ben10 rod and reel combo.
I got two very close to the boat after very long fights but didn't land one. Final one ran like a bull. Spooled me though I was able to grab the line and pull it back to the boat, got it within a few meters before it ran, then busted me off.
amazing how many boats get right up to you, or trawl right across your fish when hooked up...

I was at the school near the Cockburn sound leads, in the middle of the sound.
As I was heading out to it, I saw some birds working and a few splashes though it was just a couple of fish and they went quiet quickly. Great to see so many big schools around.
Even better to see a far majority get one or two and continue playing catch and release

Yep- Did the same light gear, ran out of line on the reel at one stage, such good fun. Had to chase the salmon down to get some line back on the spool.
There was only three boats around us this afternoon-all were enjoying catch/release.
Get bloody sore arms after awhile!!

Was a good day for it, got into a few as well. In the same area by the looks of the pic. Jigging seemed to be the way to go for me.
Sounder was blanked out at times with fish.
